These seven picks, drawn from separate 2026 guides by Runner’s World and iRunFar, cover everyday cold, wet weather, grip, nose wiping, and convertible coverage. The two publications did not test every glove side by side, so treat the picks as use-case recommendations—not a unified ranking.
Seven running gloves to consider
Runner’s World says author Amanda Furrer tested most of the gloves in its guide, judging insulation, dexterity, and fit. iRunFar presents its own category picks and observations. Their assessments are useful, but the sources do not provide directly comparable lab scores across all seven models.
| Glove | Best suited to | Source-reported strengths | Trade-offs to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Smartwool Active Fleece Insulated Glove | Everyday cold runs | Runner’s World describes a double-layer merino knit, windproof overlays, and touchscreen fingertips. Its reviewer found it warm on runs around 32°F and slightly colder. | The reviewer reported discomfort after about half an hour at 20°F and extra room at the fingertips in the smallest unisex size. |
| TrailHeads Convertible Zip Mittens | More coverage and warmth | Runner’s World highlights the convertible mitten design, insulation, and extended cuffs. | The added coverage can make fine finger tasks less convenient than in a conventional glove. Consider whether you need to operate a phone or handle small items while running. |
| Ibex Kilometer Glove | Nose wiping and a soft feel | Runner’s World notes a soft, absorbent thumb patch and leather palms. | The review says it is not touchscreen compatible. Check the current care label; Runner’s World distinguishes hand washing for Ibex models from machine washing for TrailHeads models. |
| TrailHeads Power Gloves | Grip and phone access | Runner’s World reports silicone grip and touchscreen fingertips. Its review notes that the men’s and women’s versions differ, including a nose-wipe patch on the men’s model. | Compare the exact version and fit before buying; features are not identical across the versions described in the review. |
| The North Face Etip Recycled Gloves | Lightweight everyday use | iRunFar describes soft, breathable fleece, gripper dots, and strong touchscreen performance when the glove is correctly sized. | The reported touchscreen performance depends on getting the fit right. A lightweight fleece glove may not provide enough coverage for every cold or wet run. |
| DexShell Ultra Weather Primaloft | Wet or unpleasant weather | iRunFar describes a waterproof Porelle membrane and Primaloft Gold insulation. | The added thickness limits dexterity, according to iRunFar. That trade-off matters if you need precise phone control or frequent access to pockets. |
| REI Co-op Liner Gloves 2.0 | Budget-minded layering or mild conditions | iRunFar describes a lightweight, wind-blocking liner that can be worn alone or layered. | iRunFar reports limitations in touchscreen precision. As a liner, warmth will depend on conditions and any outer layer used. |
How to choose for your run
Match warmth to effort and conditions
Think about the weather, how hard you will be working, and whether you will keep moving. A glove that feels comfortable during a hard effort may feel insufficient if you slow down or stop; a heavily insulated glove can feel excessive in milder weather. For a range of conditions, a thin liner under an outer mitten can add flexibility. Make sure the combined fit leaves room for comfortable circulation and does not compromise the dexterity you need.
Choose gloves or convertible coverage by the tasks you do
Gloves generally make finger movements easier. A mitten-style cover can add warmth or weather protection, but may make it harder to handle zippers, a phone, or other small items. Convertible designs sit between those options: they can offer more coverage when needed, but check how quickly you can switch between configurations and whether the cover protects the glove in the conditions you expect.

#1 Best Overall
- Warm and Breathable: Unigear running gloves keep the maximum thermal protection for your body in cold by wicking moisture away from your skin effectively. They are featured the newest fiber material whose fabric bulkiness is 10% higher than other fibers, against the static electricity and fabric pilling.
- Touchscreen-friendly: Do you still tolerate the frozon fingers when running, walking and driving in winter? Wearing our touchscreen gloves, you can easily use your smartphone or other electronic device to protect your hands. The thumb and forefinger tips on both hands are designed with durable conductive fabric for long lasting.
- Versatile Liner Gloves: You can layer up with skiing, cycling and other heavier gloves in harsher conditions. You also can wear them on their own as regular gloves. The palms are printed with anti-slip silicone so you can hold your phone or grip other gear securely. Ideal for running, biking, driving in fall and early winter.
- Soft and Durable: The inner liner is soft to deliver comfort and the 4-Way stretchy fabric provides tight-fitting for hands. Reinforced the elastic stitching on seams and upgraded design on palm, Unigear sporting gloves solve the problem of ripping. No more worry about the seam ripped if you choose the right size.
- Tight Fit Liner : Frozen fingers to get in the way of running, commute, driving? Are you planning on lowering your pace to touch the beautiful nature? Wearing take with a pair of unigear light gloves absorb & retain your body heat in the cold. Great for daily – design for men and women specially, unisex, good looking.
Treat touchscreen claims as a feature to verify
Touchscreen use varies by model and fit. Excess fabric at the fingertips can make a compatible glove frustrating, and a touchscreen label does not guarantee precise control. If you rely on your phone during a run, prioritize a close but comfortable fit and consider what you actually need to do—such as tapping a large control or typing—rather than assuming every task will work.
Look for practical running details
- Grip: Silicone or gripper dots can help hold a phone, bottle, or leash.
- Cuffs: Longer cuffs add coverage at the wrist; check that they sit comfortably under or over your jacket sleeve.
- Nose-wipe panels: A soft absorbent patch can be useful on cold runs, but its placement can differ by model version.
- Breathability and moisture: A breathable lightweight glove may suit a high-output run, while a weather-resistant construction may be preferable in rain or wind. More protection can add bulk.
What the reviews establish—and what they do not
The recommendations above combine product-specific observations from two different running-glove guides; they are not results from one head-to-head test. Runner’s World says Furrer judged gloves by “insulation, dexterity, and fit.” Its guide was updated February 24, 2026, and its separate Ibex Kilometer review was dated February 25, 2026. iRunFar’s 2026 guide adds observations about weather protection, grip, touchscreen use, and suitability for different kinds of runs.

- Tech Touch on thumbs & index fingers so you can use touch screen devices without taking your gloves off

REI Expert Advice describes a broader glove-and-mitten testing process, not a running-only sample: its 2026 guide says it sent more than 42 pairs to testers over six seasons, who assessed warmth, dexterity, durability, comfort, and features. That process should not be read as a direct test of the seven running models listed here.
The cited guides do not establish controlled, directly comparable lab scores for these gloves. Their reported experiences can help narrow a choice, but they do not show that one model will perform identically for every runner, fit, pace, or weather condition.

Care and fit checks before your first run
- Try the gloves on and check for excess fabric at the fingertips, especially if you expect to use a phone or adjust small fasteners.
- Test any touchscreen feature with the tasks you actually use before relying on it during a run.
- Check that an inner glove and outer mitten do not feel tight when layered.
- Follow the care label on the current product. Runner’s World recommends washing gloves after wear and air-drying the Power and Kilometer models, while its care advice distinguishes machine washing for TrailHeads from hand washing for Ibex. Product revisions may have different instructions.
