Delta has not publicly named a single aircraft to replace its Boeing 767s or assigned successors to the 767-300ER and 767-400ER separately. Its documented widebody renewal includes Boeing 787-10s scheduled to begin arriving in 2031 and Airbus A330-900s and A350-900s scheduled from 2029. Delta has described the 787 order as part of replacing older, less-efficient aircraft broadly—not as a confirmed, one-for-one 767 replacement.
Has Delta named a replacement for its 767s?
No. Delta’s public announcements and filings describe widebody fleet renewal, but do not say that a specific aircraft type will replace the 767-300ERs or 767-400ERs. They also do not announce a retirement date for either 767 variant. The 787-10 is a plausible part of the broader renewal, but calling it the designated 767 successor goes beyond what Delta has confirmed.
Delta CEO Ed Bastian said the airline was “building the fleet for the future” and providing “steady replacements for less efficient, older aircraft in the decade to come.” That statement describes the overall fleet strategy; it does not identify the 767 by name. Delta’s 2025 results announcement
What widebody aircraft has Delta ordered?
| Aircraft | Order and options | Scheduled delivery timing | What Delta has said about its role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boeing 787-10 | 30 firm aircraft, with an option for up to 30 more | Deliveries scheduled to begin in 2031 | Delta says the aircraft will improve fuel efficiency and long-haul economics and extend international capabilities. The order is part of broad replacement of older, less-efficient aircraft, but Delta has not specifically named the 767. |
| Airbus A330-900 | 16 firm aircraft, as part of an order for 16 A330-900s and 15 A350-900s; option for up to 20 additional widebodies | Deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029 | Delta said the additional order would bring its A330-900 fleet to 55. It has not assigned the aircraft as a direct replacement for a particular 767 variant. |
| Airbus A350-900 | 15 firm aircraft, as part of the same Airbus order; option for up to 20 additional widebodies | Deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029 | Delta said the additional order would bring its A350 fleet to 79, including 20 A350-1000s expected from early 2027. Delta has described the A350 as suited to long-haul growth markets, not as a specifically designated 767 replacement. |
Order quantities, options, delivery schedules and roles are based on Delta’s 2025 Form 10-K, its 2025 results announcement, and its January 27, 2026 Airbus order announcement. Delivery dates are scheduled or expected, not guarantees.

Why the 787-10 is part of the discussion
The 787-10 attracts attention because Delta ordered it as a new long-haul widebody and connected the order to replacing older, less-efficient aircraft over the coming decade. That makes it relevant to the airline’s fleet renewal, but the public record does not connect it specifically to the 767 fleet. Its deliveries are scheduled to start in 2031, later than the Airbus widebody deliveries scheduled from 2029.
It is therefore accurate to say that the 787-10 could contribute to the broader replacement of older aircraft. It is not accurate to say Delta has announced that it will replace every 767—or either 767 variant—with the 787-10.

How many 767s does Delta have?
Delta’s 2025 Form 10-K reported 37 Boeing 767-300ERs, averaging 29.0 years old, and 21 Boeing 767-400ERs, averaging 25.0 years old, as of December 31, 2025. That is a year-end snapshot of 58 aircraft, not a current-day fleet count. The filing does not provide a date by which those aircraft will leave service.

- Confirmed: Delta ordered 30 Boeing 787-10s, with an option for up to 30 more, and scheduled deliveries to begin in 2031.
- Confirmed: Delta ordered 16 Airbus A330-900s and 15 Airbus A350-900s, with deliveries scheduled from 2029 and an option for up to 20 additional widebodies.
- Confirmed: Delta frames the 787 order as part of broad replacement of older, less-efficient aircraft and international growth.
- Not announced: A single successor type for the 767 fleet, a separate successor for each 767 variant, or a specific 767 retirement date.
Delta’s June 2026 Form 10-Q also expected 2026 capital spending to exceed $5 billion, primarily for aircraft, advance deposits, fleet modifications and technology. That figure is an overall capital-spending outlook; it does not identify a 767 replacement plan. Delta’s June 2026 Form 10-Q
