There is no defensible, comparable public ranking of the 10 most expensive amber pieces in the world. The standout figure belongs to the missing Amber Room: Guinness World Records gives it a historical valuation of $142–155 million shortly before April 2000, not a sale price. For individual objects, available auction records are far lower and cover different categories, including a Myanmar amber nodule sold for $48,260 in 2025 and a Qing dynasty carving that realized £14,400. These figures cannot be combined into a reliable top ten.
Why there is no reliable top 10
A ranked list would need comparable, verified prices for ten amber objects. The documented figures available here mix a valuation of a missing historic interior, auction results for a specimen and a carving, and estimates for jewelry. A historical valuation is not a completed sale; an estimate is not a realized price; and currencies from different dates should not be treated as directly comparable without a stated conversion method.
For that reason, the entries below are a selection of documented figures, not a ranked list. They are ordered by evidence type and object category rather than by a claim that one is definitively worth more than another.
How much is the Amber Room worth?
The Amber Room is the exceptional historical benchmark, but it is missing. Guinness World Records says the chamber was dismantled and taken during World War II, reassembled in Königsberg, crated in 1945, and has since disappeared. Guinness gives a value of $142–155 million shortly before the return of an amber chest of drawers in April 2000. This is a historical valuation of a missing ensemble—not a sale, an auction result, or a current appraisal.

The Museum of Amber in Gdańsk offers a related but differently framed figure: it says historians estimated the Amber Room’s value at $143 million in today’s money. That is the museum’s wording on its page, dated 2017. It should not be merged with Guinness’s pre-2000 valuation as though the two were the same calculation.
The scale of the object helps explain why its valuation does not compare neatly with a single specimen or piece of jewelry. The Gemological Institute of America says the Amber Room was made from six tons of amber. Its historic value concerns a large, decorated interior, not simply the market price of a given weight of raw material.
Documented individual amber auction results
Myanmar red amber nodule: $48,260 realized
Christie’s reports that a large, intact red amber nodule from Myanmar realized $48,260 on 21 October 2025, against an estimate of $20,000–$30,000. Christie’s describes it as a complete gem-quality nodule and notes that large specimens are rare. The auction page says the realized price excludes buyer’s premium and applicable taxes, so it is not necessarily the buyer’s full cost.
Qing dynasty “Squirrel and Grapes” carving: £14,400 realized
A Christie’s result page records £14,400 for an amber “Squirrel and Grapes” carving and stand, attributed to the Qing dynasty and Qianlong period. The available result does not establish a sale date, so the figure is best read as a documented auction result without an added date. It is evidence for a carved amber object’s result, not proof of a universal all-time ranking.

Amber and gold bracelet: estimate, not a confirmed sale price
Sotheby’s listed an 18-carat gold and carved amber bracelet in 2023 with an estimate of €5,000–€7,000. The lot page surfaced for this figure does not show a realized result. An estimate indicates the auction house’s expected range, not what a buyer ultimately paid.
When “amber” is only a title
Su Xiaobai’s work titled Green Amber realized €40,320 in 2023 at Christie’s, but the catalog lists its materials as oil, lacquer, linen, emulsion, and wood. It is therefore not a physical amber artifact and should not be counted in a ranking of amber objects. The result is useful mainly as a reminder to check the listed medium rather than relying on a work’s title: Christie’s lot details for “Green Amber”.
Size records are not price records
Guinness World Records lists the largest piece of amber as 68.20 kilograms (150.35 pounds). The record was achieved on 28 June 2022 by the Museum of Amber, a department of the Museum of Gdańsk. It documents size, not a sale or valuation, and cannot be used to infer that the record-holder is the world’s most expensive piece.

Objects are not interchangeable
Amber can be sold as a natural specimen, a carved object, beads or jewelry, or as part of a much larger historic interior. Size, workmanship, condition, provenance, and the form in which the material is sold all affect what a price means. A rare intact nodule and a carved Qing dynasty object are different types of collectible, even when both are genuine amber.

Material identification matters
The Gemological Institute of America describes amber as fossilized tree resin and notes that it is relatively soft, with a Mohs hardness of 2.0–2.5. It also explains that treatments can affect color, apparent clarity, or durability. A title or seller description alone does not establish material or treatment, so high-value purchases call for appropriate verification.
For example, the Amber Museum in Kraków describes a laboratory that uses a Nicolet iS10 spectrometer with an ATR attachment and issues certificates reporting properties such as weight, color, metal type, and known modification processes. Its laboratory page describes one institution’s service; its fees and procedures should not be treated as a universal standard.
What is the most expensive amber ever sold?
The available figures do not establish a definitive answer across all amber sales. The highest recent single-object realized price in these records is Christie’s $48,260 result for the Myanmar red amber nodule on 21 October 2025. The much larger Amber Room figure is a historical valuation of a missing ensemble, not an object that was sold. Keeping those categories separate is essential to understanding what the numbers do—and do not—show.
