The Indian Air Force’s broad Mirage 2000 modernization was approved in 2011 and was reported successfully completed on schedule in 2015. It was a joint French-Indian program: Thales and Dassault handled the first two aircraft in France, while Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) carried out the remaining fleet work in India with support from the French companies. A later radar-component tender does not, by itself, show that a new fleet-wide upgrade has begun.
What the Mirage 2000 upgrade involved
In 2011, India’s Ministry of Defence said the modernization would enhance the aircraft’s avionics and weapons-delivery capability. The Ministry’s 2015 account described the upgraded aircraft as incorporating advanced avionics, weapons and self-protection suites. Dassault’s 2015 release identifies elements of the equipment kit as a radar, electronic warfare suite and mission computer. These descriptions establish the published scope, but do not quantify combat-performance gains.
The Government of India estimated the combined French and HAL portions at Rs. 10,947 crore in 2011. That was an estimate, not a confirmed final program cost. The same release forecast completion within ten years of contract signing; the Ministry later reported that the program was completed on schedule. How the work was divided
The 2011 plan assigned the first two aircraft to Thales and Dassault in France, with the rest to be upgraded by HAL in Bangalore. Dassault’s account says HAL performed the remaining fleet work with support and involvement from both French companies. The effort was therefore not a Thales-Dassault-only upgrade.

The first upgraded aircraft made its maiden flight on 5 October 2013, according to Dassault. The first two upgraded aircraft arrived at Gwalior on 24 April 2015, according to the Ministry of Defence, which later said the overall program was completed on schedule. 2026 RDY radar transmitter tender
An Indian Air Force tender published on 7 April 2026 seeks replacement and upgrade of the I-level setup of the RDY radar transmitter on Mirage 2000 aircraft. The tender record lists 3 August 2026 as the bid-opening date. It is a specific equipment procurement notice; the record does not establish an award or completed work, nor does it announce a new fleet-wide modernization. Indian Air Force tender record.

Dassault’s Indian MRO subsidiary
In September 2024, Dassault Aviation announced the creation of Dassault Aviation MRO India (DAMROI), intended to support the IAF’s Mirage 2000 fleet and other Dassault-supplied fighters. The announcement describes planned support services; it does not verify a particular subsequent IAF contract or the subsidiary’s current operating capacity. Dassault Aviation, 25 September 2024.
Offset-contract listing
The Defence Offset Management Wing’s vendor listing includes a Mirage 2000 aircraft upgrade offset entry under Thales Systemes Aeroportes. That listing records an offset contract entry; it is not evidence that the completed modernization has restarted. Defence Offset Management Wing vendor listing.
