Yes. Subaru of America reported 71,478 U.S. vehicle sales in March 2025, its best-ever sales month and a 16.6% increase from March 2024. The total beat the company’s previous monthly record of 70,039, set in August 2019. These figures are for Subaru of America’s U.S. sales, not global Subaru Corporation sales.
How strong were Subaru’s March 2025 sales?
Subaru of America announced the result on April 1, 2025. Its 71,478 March sales were 10,181 above March 2024’s 61,297 and 1,439 above the August 2019 record. The company also reported 166,957 U.S. sales for the first quarter, up 9.1% from 152,996 in the first quarter of 2024. It said monthly sales had increased year over year for 32 consecutive months as of March 2025.
Those are company-reported sales figures; they do not by themselves establish market-share gains, profitability, or whether the pace will continue. Subaru Corporation reports Japan sales and exports separately, so those figures should not be added to or confused with Subaru of America’s U.S. total. Subaru Corporation’s March 2025 results are reported on a different geographic and organizational basis.
Which Subaru models sold the most?
The Forester led the lineup by March volume, with the Crosstrek and Outback next. The following are Subaru of America’s U.S. model sales for March 2025 and year-over-year changes reported by the company.

Subaru’s April 1 sales release identifies the model results and records. Seven of the nine listed model lines were up year over year; the Ascent and WRX were down. The record total therefore did not mean that every model gained sales.
What explains the record?
The reported figures show where volume came from, but they do not establish why buyers purchased more Subarus. The Forester was the largest contributor by units, while the Crosstrek and Outback also posted strong March totals and year-over-year gains.

There was broader strength in the U.S. auto market: the Associated Press reported nearly 1.6 million vehicles sold across automakers in March 2025, up 13.6%. Its report placed the strong sales reports alongside tariffs scheduled to begin taking effect in April. That timing is context, not proof that tariffs caused Subaru’s record or that buyers accelerated purchases of Subaru vehicles specifically. The Associated Press report covers the wider market.

For readers tracking the company, March was a record month for Subaru of America and the first quarter was ahead of the same period in 2024. The monthly result alone cannot show whether demand will persist, whether Subaru gained market share, or how sales affected earnings. Those questions require evidence beyond the sales totals.

Jeff Walters, Subaru of America’s president and chief operating officer, said the company was “celebrating our best sales month ever while setting the standard for automotive safety.” The sales release supplies the record claim and sales data; the quoted statement is the executive’s characterization, not an independent assessment of safety.
