Businesses on Stripe generated $1.4 trillion in total payment volume in 2024, a 38% increase from 2023, according to the company. The announcement described planned share purchases—not a completed public offering—and the $91.5 billion figure is no longer Stripe’s latest announced tender valuation: in February 2026, the company announced a later offer at $159 billion.
What Stripe announced in February 2025
Stripe’s February 27, 2025 announcement said the company had signed agreements with investors to provide liquidity to current and former employees through a tender offer. Stripe also said it would repurchase shares. The company attached a $91.5 billion (€87.3 billion) valuation to that offer.
A tender offer gives eligible shareholders a way to sell shares in a private company under the terms of that offer. In this case, the public announcement did not state the detailed share terms, the final amount sold, or how many employees participated. It is therefore more accurate to say Stripe announced agreements for a tender offer than to say the public information establishes a finalized sale with known results.
What the $1.4 trillion figure measures
Stripe reported that businesses on its platform generated $1.4 trillion in total payment volume during 2024, up 38% from 2023. Payment volume is the value of transactions processed for businesses using Stripe; it is not Stripe’s revenue. The company’s 2025 announcement did not provide a revenue figure. TechCrunch likewise distinguished payment volume from Stripe’s economics and noted that the transaction margin is thin.

Did Stripe announce an IPO?
No IPO decision or timing was announced in the cited 2025 or 2026 Stripe releases. Employee tenders can provide liquidity to shareholders while a company remains private; by themselves, they do not establish that an IPO is planned or when one might happen.

Payments Dive quoted QED Investors partner Amias Gerety describing tender offers as a “pressure relief valve” for possible IPO pressure. That is an investor’s interpretation, not a statement of Stripe’s IPO plans.

In its February 2026 update, Stripe described itself as “robustly profitable.” The announcement did not give a specific revenue or income figure, so the statement should be treated as the company’s characterization rather than a quantified profitability disclosure.
