The increase is $1 per month for each voice line and 50 cents per month for each mobile internet line. Prepaid customers should check their account and confirm applicability with T-Mobile rather than assume their charge will change.
What T-Mobile says is changing
T-Mobile’s support page, “Your bill and what’s impacting it,” lists the following monthly fee amounts before and after October 12, 2026:

For a voice line, T-Mobile breaks the current $4.49 amount into $0.50 for Regulatory Programs and $3.99 for Telco Recovery. For a mobile internet line, the current $2.10 consists of $0.12 and $1.98, respectively. The page gives the new totals but does not provide a new component-by-component breakdown.
Does the increase apply to T-Mobile Prepaid?
T-Mobile’s fee notice does not explicitly identify prepaid accounts as covered or excluded. Its prepaid support and price-guarantee pages do not settle that question either. On the official information available, it is not established that this specific increase will be charged to prepaid customers.

A September 30, 2026 report by ShopCellPlans describes the change as concerning postpaid service and says it was not announced for prepaid. That is secondary reporting, not confirmation from T-Mobile; it does not resolve how the company will treat a particular prepaid plan or account.
What the prepaid 5-Year Price Guarantee means
T-Mobile says customers activating or switching to eligible prepaid Starter Monthly, Unlimited Monthly, or Unlimited Plus Monthly smartphone plans may qualify for its 5-Year Price Guarantee. The guarantee covers the monthly price for talk, text, and T-Mobile 5G data, while taxes and fees are excluded. So it does not promise an unchanged all-in payment, but its exclusions do not establish that this particular fee increase applies to prepaid.

T-Mobile announced the prepaid plans on June 18, 2025, with a launch date of June 24, 2025. That announcement also mentioned a $10 device connection charge due at sale. It is a one-time charge, not the recurring fee scheduled to change in October 2026.
How prepaid customers can check their charges
- Sign in to your T-Mobile account and review the line details, plan, and current monthly charges. T-Mobile’s “Prepaid plans & services” support page says account holders can view this information there.
- Ask T-Mobile support whether the October 12, 2026 Regulatory Programs & Telco Recovery Fee change applies to your exact prepaid plan and line type.
- If you see a new charge, compare it with the fee description and amount shown in your account, and ask T-Mobile to explain any difference you cannot identify.
T-Mobile also notes that feature add-ons may carry additional fees and are charged at the full monthly amount when added. Keep those separate from the fee increase when comparing one month’s total with another.

How to assess the effect on your budget
If T-Mobile confirms the change applies to your account, the published increase is $1 monthly for each voice line or 50 cents monthly for each mobile internet line. The notice does not establish how many prepaid lines, if any, will be affected, so a customer’s actual change cannot be calculated from the notice alone.
When comparing prepaid plans, compare the total recurring cost after applicable taxes and fees, not just the advertised plan price. Check whether a quoted price includes those charges and read the exclusions in any price guarantee. The available information does not support naming a cheapest alternative or estimating savings against competitors.
