The initial payments in the 2021 T-Mobile data breach settlement have already been distributed, and the deadline to request a reissue has passed. A further, residual distribution is expected later in 2026, but the settlement administrator has not announced a specific mailing or deposit date—or how much any individual may receive.

Which T-Mobile settlement is this?

This is the class action settlement for the data breach T-Mobile announced on August 16, 2021: In re: T-Mobile Customer Data Security Breach Litigation, Case No. 4:21-md-03019-BCW, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, Western Division. It is not a payment program for every later T-Mobile incident. The official settlement website identifies the case and says it is the only authorized site for it.

The court granted preliminary approval on July 26, 2022, and final approval on June 29, 2023. T-Mobile reported in its first-quarter 2026 filing that appeals were resolved and the settlement is final. (T-Mobile US, Inc., Q1 2026 Form 10-Q)

What is the current payment status?

As of October 8, 2026, the administrator says all court proceedings are complete and the initial distribution has concluded. The deadline to request a reissue for a payment from that initial distribution has also passed. Kroll’s current update says, “A residual distribution is expected to take place later this year.” It does not give a date, say whether the payment will be a check or digital transfer, or publish an amount for any class member. What the settlement covered—and what it does not tell you about a residual payment

The settlement established a $350 million fund for class claims, attorneys’ fees and expenses, administration, and other court-approved costs. The 2022 long-form notice described cash payments for documented losses and lost time, an alternative cash payment, and identity-related services; T-Mobile’s 2026 filing confirms the company paid an aggregate $350 million. The notice set out an alternative payment of $25, or $100 for a class member who lived in California on August 1, 2021, while warning that those amounts could change depending on the number of cash claims. Those were historical terms, not a current promise or a published estimate for the residual distribution. The claims deadline was January 23, 2023, so the administrator is not accepting new cash claims under that deadline.

Eligible class members may still be able to enroll in Identity Defense Services or use Restoration Services even if they did not submit a cash claim; check the official settlement site for eligibility and current access information.
