A May 2024 report said Take-Two Interactive planned a Seattle-area closure affecting 70 workers, with the layoffs set to take effect June 28, 2024. The figure came from a Washington state WARN notification; the available sources do not confirm how many employees ultimately separated.

What was reported about the Seattle-area layoffs?

GeekWire reported on May 1, 2024, that Take-Two Interactive planned to lay off 70 employees in the Seattle region as part of a closure beginning June 28. The report attributed the count to a notification filed with Washington’s Employment Security Department (ESD). Read GeekWire’s report.

A secondary WARN notice tracker lists April 29, 2024, as the notice date and June 28, 2024, as the effective date. Those dates are from the tracker, not the original state notice. See the WARNScan record.

Was Intercept Games affected?

GeekWire connected the Seattle-area event to Intercept Games, which it described at the time as a Seattle-based studio owned by Take-Two and developing Kerbal Space Program 2. That is context from the 2024 report, not confirmation of the studio’s current operating status. Take-Two’s investor-relations profile describes the company as a developer, publisher, and marketer of interactive entertainment, with Rockstar Games, 2K, and Zynga as its principal labels. What does the WARN notice establish?

Washington ESD says the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires companies planning a mass layoff to notify workers 60 days in advance. The state’s guidance says its law covers certain closures, mass layoffs, and hour reductions, with thresholds that vary by event type: a closure must affect at least 50 full-time employees at one worksite, while a mass layoff is 50 or more full-time workers laid off during a 30-day period at one site. Written notice is due 60 days before a covered event. Washington ESD WARN guidance.

A reported notice describes a planned event. By itself, it does not establish whether every legal requirement applied to this particular event, how many people ultimately lost their jobs, or what any individual worker received in severance or other support.
