When did Haviv Ilan replace Rich Templeton?
Texas Instruments announced on January 19, 2023, that its board had selected Ilan as the company’s next president and CEO. The appointment took effect on April 1, 2023. Templeton then left the president and CEO roles but continued as chairman. Texas Instruments’ announcement described the move as a planned leadership transition.
Who is Haviv Ilan?
Ilan was a longtime TI executive before his appointment. The company described him as a 24-year veteran when it announced his succession in 2023. He became a senior vice president in 2014, executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2020, and joined the board in 2021, according to the announcement.
Templeton, then TI’s chairman and CEO, said the board was confident Ilan was “the right person to serve as TI’s next CEO and further strengthen the company for the long term.” TI lead director Pam Patsley described the succession announcement as a “thoughtful and well-planned transition.” Those statements reflect the company’s public explanation; they do not disclose private board deliberations.

What happened to Templeton after the CEO handoff?
Templeton did not leave TI when Ilan became CEO in April 2023. He remained chairman through the transition and continued in that role until the end of 2025. On October 16, 2025, TI announced that Templeton would retire at year-end after a 45-year career with the company, and that Ilan would become chairman in January 2026.
Who leads Texas Instruments now?
As of October 8, 2026, TI’s leadership page identifies Ilan as chairman, president and CEO, with his chairmanship beginning in 2026 and his CEO tenure beginning in 2023. The company’s 2026 proxy statement records Templeton’s retirement as chairman and board member. The key distinction is that Ilan became CEO in 2023, then chairman in 2026; these were separate stages of the succession.
