Cursor announced on August 14, 2026, that SpaceX had completed its acquisition of the AI coding company. The deal’s reported value does not establish how much Sualeh Asif personally received. Forbes’s 2026 country-list entry identifies the Cursor cofounder as Pakistan’s richest person on that list—not fourth—and a later Forbes estimate gives a different, higher figure.
Who is Sualeh Asif?
Sualeh Asif is a cofounder of Cursor, an AI coding product. Forbes identifies him as a Pakistani citizen originally from Karachi and reports that he represented Pakistan at the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2016 to 2018. Forbes’s profile of Asif provides those biographical details.
Did SpaceX complete its acquisition of Cursor?
Yes. Cursor said on August 14, 2026, that the acquisition was complete. The company also said it expected access to SpaceX GPU capacity to support model development and reduce costs; those are Cursor’s stated expectations, not independently verified outcomes. Cursor’s acquisition announcement confirms the company’s public account of the closing.
How the agreement developed
Before the acquisition was announced as complete, Cursor said on April 21, 2026, that it had partnered with SpaceX to use SpaceXAI’s Colossus infrastructure to accelerate model training. Cursor’s partnership announcement describes that earlier compute arrangement.

SpaceX’s June 5, 2026, prospectus described both a compute agreement and an option to acquire Cursor. SpaceX retained discretion over whether to exercise the option; exercise required further board approval, and a resulting merger was subject to closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Is Sualeh Asif the fourth-richest Pakistani?
The Forbes ranking cited for 2026 does not support “fourth.” Forbes Italia’s country-list entry names Asif as the richest person from Pakistan on that annual list, with an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion and a world rank of 2,858. That is a position within the list’s Pakistan entries, not a claim that he ranks fourth. Forbes Italia’s 2026 country-by-country list is the source for those figures.

These are time-specific estimates, not audited statements of Asif’s assets or proof of personal proceeds from the acquisition. Forbes’s profile metadata is not fully consistent, so the dated estimate should be read as the figure displayed for that date rather than as a definitive, continuously updated record. The figures differ because they come from separate Forbes estimates at different dates and in different ranking contexts. Neither source says that the acquisition itself delivered a specific amount of cash or other personal proceeds to Asif.

What does the SpaceX deal’s $60 billion figure mean?
SpaceX’s June 2026 prospectus specified an implied Cursor equity value of $60.0 billion if SpaceX exercised its acquisition option and the transaction closed. The figure was calculated in relation to SpaceX share pricing. It describes the company-level implied transaction value—not Asif’s personal net worth or payout.
Forbes Italia separately described Cursor as valued at $29.3 billion in its coverage of Asif’s appearance on the annual World’s Billionaires list. That earlier company valuation and the prospectus’s later $60.0 billion implied equity value refer to different valuations and should not be treated as interchangeable. Forbes Italia’s annual-list coverage gives the $29.3 billion figure; the prospectus gives the later conditional transaction figure.

Why the deal value cannot tell us Asif’s personal proceeds
A company’s equity value is not the same as the money paid to any one founder. The available figures do not establish Asif’s ownership percentage, the value or form of any consideration allocated to him, or his personal holdings after closing. They therefore cannot be used to calculate what he received or to attribute a precise change in his estimated wealth to the acquisition.
The defensible conclusion is narrower: Cursor confirmed that SpaceX completed its acquisition, Forbes has published wealth estimates for Asif at different dates, and the cited 2026 country list calls him Pakistan’s richest person on that list rather than fourth.
