Rogers customers were told to expect a $5 monthly wireless plan rate adjustment starting July 15, 2026, and some Bell Mobility customers were notified of a $6 monthly increase beginning with their October 2026 bill. The evidence available does not confirm a corresponding TELUS monthly plan-price increase. A separate $15 TELUS SIM/eSIM purchase fee is not a recurring plan charge.
Which wireless prices changed?
| Carrier | Reported change | Who and when | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rogers | $5 monthly “Wireless Plan Rate Adjustment” | Rogers told customers the charge would start July 15, 2026. | The CRTC records Rogers’ notice to wireless customers; it does not establish that every Rogers customer was affected. CRTC staff letter to Rogers |
| Bell Mobility | $6 per month | Some customers were reported to have received notice that the increase would begin with their October 2026 bill date. | MobileSyrup reported the notices on August 18, 2026; the report does not say every Bell customer was affected. MobileSyrup report |
| TELUS | No confirmed monthly plan-rate increase established here. A separate $15 SIM/eSIM purchase fee is recorded. | The fee concerns purchasing a SIM card or eSIM; it is not described as a recurring monthly plan charge. | The CRTC notice describes the SIM-related fee. A customer discussion mentions a possible $5 increase, but does not verify its amount, timing, or scope. CRTC notice · TELUS customer discussion |
Why the CRTC is examining carrier fees
The CRTC opened a show-cause proceeding after learning that Bell, TELUS, and Rogers had introduced fees that may conflict with protections against charges that discourage customers from changing or cancelling cellphone and Internet plans. The notice describes a Bell $40 device-handling charge, TELUS’s $15 SIM/eSIM purchase fee, and Rogers’ $5 monthly rate adjustment. These are matters under regulatory review, not a final finding that any carrier violated the rules. Read the CRTC Telecom Notice of Consultation 2026-155 for the proceeding’s scope.
How to check whether your bill went up
- Open your carrier account or latest bill and compare the current recurring plan charge with the previous bill.
- Look for a dated notice or line item explaining the change. Distinguish a monthly plan-rate adjustment from a one-time SIM, device-handling, or other fee.
- Check whether the stated change applies to your plan and account. The reported Rogers and Bell increases do not establish that all subscribers were affected.
- If the notice is unclear, contact the carrier and ask for the effective date, recurring amount, and reason in writing; then compare that answer with the bill.
Compare the total cost before switching
A lower advertised monthly price is not necessarily a lower bill or a better fit. Compare the all-in recurring price after discounts, data allowance and overage or throttling terms, calling and roaming coverage, service where you live and travel, device financing balances, and any fees or conditions for leaving. Verify current offers and coverage directly with providers; the reported increases alone do not identify the best alternative for a particular customer.
