What Stellantis has confirmed
Stellantis’s 2025 Form 20-F reports €0.6 billion in 2025 impairment charges attributed to Maserati. An impairment reflects a reduction in the accounting value of assets; it is not, by itself, proof that an equivalent amount of planned investment was cancelled. The filing also says Maserati ceased to be a separate reportable segment effective January 1, 2026, with sales reported by region. Separately, Stellantis said its 2025 business reset produced approximately €22.2 billion in charges in the second half of the year and included cancellations of certain future products that were not expected to achieve profitable scale. What Stellantis said it plans for Maserati
On May 21, 2026, Stellantis announced plans to strengthen Maserati and add two E-segment vehicles. The company said it would share a detailed roadmap in Modena in December 2026. Why the $1.6 billion figure may be confusing

How to assess the claim
When evaluating a reported corporate investment cancellation, check what the amount represents and which business it concerns. In this case, the figures above refer variously to a historical investment plan, accounting impairments, group-wide reset charges, a battery joint venture and another automaker. None of the cited official disclosures confirms a $1.6 billion Maserati investment cancellation.
