Spotify announced the increase on January 15, 2026, but that is not necessarily the date an existing subscriber first pays the higher rate: Spotify says the change is phased in according to each subscriber’s billing date.
How much does each Spotify Premium plan cost in the US?
Spotify’s US Premium page currently lists these monthly prices. Prices and advertised features can change.

When will Spotify charge you the new price?
Spotify announced the update on January 15, 2026, for subscribers in the US, Estonia, and Latvia. It said affected subscribers would receive an email over the following month explaining the change to their subscriptions. Spotify Support says the email provides the new price and that subscribers have a one-month grace period to cancel before the higher price takes effect. The precise billing date varies with when you subscribed; there is no single effective date that applies to everyone.
Check the Spotify email about your plan and the account page for your own price and next billing date. Do not treat the announcement date as your personal charge date.

Why did Spotify raise Premium prices again?
Spotify’s announcement says: “Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists.” Spotify Support also says the update is intended to let the company continue innovating in changing market conditions and delivering audio content. These are Spotify’s stated reasons; the announcement does not name an individual speaker or establish an independently verified explanation for the increase.

Spotify identifies three options if you do not want to pay the new rate: move to a paid plan for which you qualify, switch to the free ad-supported service, or cancel before your next billing date. Use the email and account page to confirm your deadline before making a change.

Check whether another paid plan fits
Compare the total household cost with the number of people who can actually use the plan. Student is limited to eligible, verified students; Duo is for two people at the same address; Family covers up to six family members at the same address. A lower sticker price is not necessarily cheaper per person or available to your household. Consider included features as well as eligibility and account limits.
Switch to Spotify Free
Spotify says its free ad-supported service retains access to saved tracks, playlists, music, and podcasts. Consider whether the free service’s ads and differences from Premium are acceptable before switching.

Cancel before the next billing date
Spotify Support says you can cancel before the new price takes effect during the one-month grace period. Follow the cancellation option shown for your account and verify the next billing date rather than assuming your subscription ends on the date of the announcement.
Consider a gift card only for Individual
Spotify Support says a gift card bought at a lower price can still be redeemed, but gift cards apply only to Premium Individual. They are not a payment workaround for Student, Duo, or Family, and availability or discount pricing should not be assumed.
