How many PS5 consoles has Sony sold?
Sony Group Corporation reported 93.7 million cumulative PS5 hardware sell-in units as of March 31, 2026, in its FY2026 Q1 Supplemental Information, dated July 31, 2026. This is the latest official cumulative figure cited here; it is measured as of March 31, not July 31.
The total is global and covers PS5 hardware. Sony reports the figure as sell-in: units shipped into the retail and distribution channel. It is not an audited count of consoles consumers bought.
What does Sony mean by “sell-in”?
Sony’s report states: “Hardware units are disclosed on a sell-in basis.” Sell-in records shipments from Sony into the channel. Sell-through, by contrast, refers to purchases by customers. The terms describe different points in the sales chain, so Sony’s shipment total should not be presented as an exact count of consoles in consumers’ homes.

Sony has also published selected cumulative sell-through milestones separately. When comparing PS5 totals, check the measurement (sell-in or sell-through), the as-of date, geography, and whether the number covers hardware alone.
Why is 65 million a historical milestone?
Sony’s 2024 Corporate Report recorded 61.7 million cumulative PS5 units as of June 30, 2024, and identifies that figure as sell-in. The later 93.7 million total shows that the 65-million threshold has since been surpassed. These two dated figures do not establish the exact date Sony crossed 65 million.

Where to check Sony’s latest reported total
Sony’s earnings archive lists its quarterly results and supplemental materials. A cumulative hardware figure should always be read with its reporting date: a report released later may still describe shipments only through an earlier quarter-end.
