Starting May 20, 2026, new PlayStation Plus customers in Canada began paying more for the Essential plan’s one-month and three-month subscriptions: CAD $14.99 monthly, up from $13.99, and CAD $37.99 every three months, up from $34.99. The 12-month Essential price remained CAD $109.99, and Extra and Premium prices were unchanged in that update, according to MobileSyrup’s May 19 report.
What changed in the Canadian PS Plus prices?
The reported increase was limited to new customers subscribing to PlayStation Plus Essential on a one-month or three-month billing interval. MobileSyrup said it confirmed Canada was included with a PlayStation Canada representative.

The new one-month Essential listing on the Canadian PlayStation Store also displayed CAD $14.99 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Store prices and offers can change, so check the amount shown for your own account before subscribing or renewing.
Does the increase affect existing subscribers or every PS Plus tier?
MobileSyrup described the May 2026 increase as applying to new customers. Its report said the annual Essential plan and the Extra and Premium tiers were unchanged in that update. That report does not establish that every existing member will keep the same renewal price indefinitely; check the plan, renewal date and amount shown in your account.

PlayStation Plus is a recurring subscription that continues until cancelled. The Store listing says fees are charged automatically and provides cancellation information. Manage or review your plan through your PlayStation account settings and the Canadian PlayStation Plus service page.
What does each PlayStation Plus tier include?

Catalogues and availability can change. PlayStation says PS4 games will be added only intermittently from January 2026. Access to Plus benefits requires an active subscription, and some catalog titles can leave the service; monthly games should not be treated as permanently owned purchases.

How to decide whether to keep or change your plan
Compare the billing interval and total amount you will pay, then consider which benefits you actually use. Essential is aimed at subscribers who want core online and monthly-game features; Extra may suit someone who uses the Game Catalog; Premium adds classics, trials and cloud streaming.
- Check your current tier, renewal date and displayed renewal price in account settings.
- Compare the full cost over the period you expect to subscribe, not just the monthly equivalent.
- Before upgrading or downgrading, review the effective date and any amount shown at checkout. PlayStation says plan changes are managed in account settings; downgrades take effect after the applicable prepaid period or on the next payment date.
- If you no longer want recurring billing, use the account’s cancellation controls and confirm the subscription status.
PlayStation’s Canadian service information also says Plus vouchers can convert to access time differently depending on whether you already have an active membership and which tier you hold. Check the service page for the terms that apply to your account.

Why did Sony raise the prices?
MobileSyrup reported Sony’s explanation as “ongoing market conditions.” The report did not provide a more detailed Canada-specific breakdown of the factors behind the decision, so claims about particular costs or economic causes would be speculation.
