What the 2024–25 Southern Railway notice covered
Southern Railway’s combined notification, dated 18 July 2024, invited candidates to engage in training under the Apprentices Act, 1961, across the railway’s divisions, workshops and units. It announced 2,438 slots for the 2024–25 apprenticeship year. The notice was a training engagement, not a current recruitment opening.
The wording “2400+ Apprentice posts” refers to those 2,438 slots. Do not confuse this intake with Southern Railway’s separate 2023–24 notice, which announced 2,860 slots.
Application dates and current status
The application window opened online on 22 July 2024 at 10:00 and closed on 12 August 2024 at 17:00. That deadline has passed, so candidates cannot use the 2024–25 notice to apply now.
Southern Railway required online submissions and stated in its 2024–25 Combined Notification: “No other mode of submission is entertained.” Its notice directed candidates to the Southern Railway website’s Act Apprentices 2024–25 information. Because the window is closed, this is historical application guidance rather than a live route.
Who could apply
Eligibility was restricted by residence: candidates had to live in specified areas within Southern Railway’s geographical jurisdiction. The listed locations included Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, specified island territories, and specified districts in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The notice’s full wording defines the covered areas; this was not an all-India eligibility invitation.
