Sheffield Wednesday takeover: Arise deal completed; what happened to the Chansiri wages and bidder claims?

Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover is complete: Arise Capital Partners acquired the club’s assets on 2 May 2026. The Chansiri wage reports and other bidder claims relate to earlier stages, not a pending sale.

Sheffield Wednesday has been taken over. The EFL confirmed that administrators completed the transfer of the club’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC on 2 May 2026, ending Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership. The late-wage reports and divestment discussions belong to the earlier Chansiri period; they do not establish a current wage problem under Arise.

What is Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover status?

The sale to Arise Capital Partners LLC is complete, not an ongoing takeover bid. The EFL announced the agreement on 2 May 2026. BBC Sport reported that the deal ended Chansiri’s ownership and that budget restrictions would apply for two seasons, while player signings remained permitted.

Arise had been named preferred bidder by the club’s administrators on 10 March 2026. In that announcement, the club identified David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as the consortium and said it had supplied a deposit and evidence of funds. Preferred-bidder status was an earlier stage; the transfer was completed later.

How did the takeover process unfold?

Date Bidder or event What was established
August 2025 Chansiri divestment discussions Sky Sports reported repeated late player wages and quoted an EFL statement dated 6 August saying the league was in advanced discussions with Chansiri’s legal advisers about formalising a divestment process. This was about Chansiri’s ownership, not the eventual Arise sale.
24 October 2025 Administration BBC Sport reported that Wednesday entered administration and received an immediate 12-point deduction.
January 2026 James Bord and Felix Roemer consortium The Guardian reported that the EFL was examining the funding of this then-preferred bid, including whether it was substantially connected to gambling and crypto-gambling operations. The consortium’s advisers described its funding as private investment; the EFL review was ongoing at the time.
22 February 2026 Relegation BBC Sport reported that defeat by Sheffield United confirmed Wednesday’s relegation to League One with 13 games remaining. BBC also reported six additional points deducted over payment-related charges during the 2025–26 season.
25 February 2026 Bord/Roemer bid BBC Sport reported that the takeover bid had collapsed.
10 March 2026 Arise Capital Partners LLC The administrators named Arise preferred bidder.
2 May 2026 Arise Capital Partners LLC The EFL announced the completed transfer of the club’s assets to Arise.

What is known about the Chansiri-era wage issue?

Sky Sports reported in August 2025 that Sheffield Wednesday players had repeatedly been paid late. In a statement dated 6 August, the EFL said it was pursuing options to resolve the challenges and was in advanced discussions with Chansiri’s legal advisers about formalising a process for divesting his shareholding.

Those reports document a serious issue during Chansiri’s ownership. They do not show whether wages are currently being paid late under Arise: no current wage figure or verified update is established here.

What was the Guardascione concern?

A letter signed by local MPs, Lord Blunkett and the Supporters’ Trust asked the EFL about a “so-called bid by Guardascione” and raised concerns about alleged documentation issues. That wording records the signatories’ question and concern; it is not proof that documents were forged or that wrongdoing was established. The letter’s concern should not be treated as a finding about Arise, which completed the purchase.

Were Fertitta’s advanced takeover talks confirmed?

No reliable source in the available reporting establishes when alleged advanced talks involving Tilman Fertitta took place or what their status was. It is therefore not possible to present that claim as confirmed. The verified completed buyer was Arise Capital Partners LLC, and the available reporting does not establish a connection between Fertitta, the Guardascione concern and the separate Bord/Roemer process.
