The English Football League was reported to be investigating allegations about Sheffield United’s ownership structure and a disputed payment to former owner Prince Abdullah. The Guardian reported on July 8, 2026, that the club’s June 22 board update named 1919 Partners LLC as the parent company of Sheffield United FC. The reported investigation and ownership allegations are not findings of wrongdoing.
Sky Sports reported on August 17, 2026, that United World, Prince Abdullah’s investment company, claimed COH Sports Bidco still owed £35 million from the acquisition. Sky also reported that a winding-up hearing was scheduled for August 19. That was a reported hearing date, not confirmation of its outcome. The available reports do not establish a settlement, insolvency, a points deduction, or a final EFL decision.
How does Will Osula’s Newcastle transfer fit in?
Osula’s move is historical context, not a proposed transfer connected to the dispute. Newcastle United says the forward joined from Sheffield United in 2024 as its fifth senior signing of that summer window. Newcastle lists the fee as undisclosed.

The Guardian reported in August 2024 that the fee was about £10 million. That was a press estimate, not an official disclosure, so it should not be treated as a confirmed transfer figure.
What has Osula done at Newcastle?
Newcastle’s official player profile says Osula scored five goals in the club’s final seven Premier League fixtures of the 2025/26 season. In a BBC Sport report published May 3, 2026, manager Eddie Howe said: “He is very hungry, motivated and believes in himself,” and “I think he has a really bright future.”

Are the two clubs’ ownership stories connected?
The reports link Osula’s former club and his completed transfer as context; they do not establish that his move caused or resolved Sheffield United’s ownership dispute. Newcastle’s corporate information says it is owned by an investment group led by the Public Investment Fund and RB Sports & Media, whose ultimate beneficial owner is Jamie Reuben. That is a separate ownership structure from the one at the centre of the Sheffield United reports.
