Graham Siddall left his post as executive chairman of Credence Systems Corporation and resigned from its board on October 31, 2005. The company described the retirement as the planned final stage of a succession process: Dave Ranhoff had already taken over as CEO on January 1, while Siddall stayed on as part-time executive chairman.

When did Siddall leave Credence?

Siddall stepped down as executive chairman and left Credence’s board on October 31, 2005, according to EE Times’ contemporaneous report.

How the leadership transition unfolded

Date Change
1999 Siddall became Credence president and CEO. EE Times
January 1, 2005 Dave Ranhoff became CEO, while Siddall remained part-time executive chairman. The arrangement is described in Credence’s SEC filing.
October 31, 2005 Siddall retired from the executive chair and resigned from the board. EE Times
December 2005 Dave House was appointed executive chairman, succeeding Siddall. EDN

The CEO handover therefore preceded Siddall’s departure from the chair by ten months. Ranhoff replaced him as CEO; House later succeeded him as executive chairman.

Why did Siddall step down?

Credence presented the retirement as a planned succession rather than an abrupt departure. Siddall said: “My retirement was a planned next step in the strategic succession plan developed by the executive team and the board of directors several years ago,” as quoted in EDN’s November 1, 2005 report.
