The “sixth missed report” refers to a 2025 shutdown-related interruption—not to 2026. A November 10, 2025, Successful Farming article reported that USDA had skipped six consecutive weekly Crop Progress releases. USDA’s archive now lists a Crop Progress report released October 5, 2026, so the 2025 headline should not be read as a current report delay.

What the headline meant in November 2025

Successful Farming published “Sixth USDA Crop Progress Report Missed, as Shutdown Drags Into November” on November 10, 2025. It said USDA did not publish the season’s expected 32nd Crop Progress report, marking the sixth consecutive week without a release amid the federal shutdown then underway. That is a report about events in 2025, not evidence of a 2026 shutdown or missed report. Read the November 10, 2025 article.

What the USDA record shows for 2026

The USDA Economic Research Service’s National Agricultural Library ESMIS archive lists a Crop Progress release dated October 5, 2026, and displays later scheduled release dates. That establishes that a report was listed for that 2026 date; it does not change what happened during the 2025 shutdown. The archive is the appropriate place to check whether a particular release has appeared: USDA Crop Progress archive.

The sources cited here do not establish whether a federal shutdown is in effect in October 2026. The 2025 story cannot support a claim about current shutdown status.

What Crop Progress reports cover

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) publishes Crop Progress weekly during the reporting season, generally from April through November. The report covers planting, fruiting, harvesting progress, and crop condition for selected crops in major producing states. Progress tables compare the current week with the previous week, the previous year, and the five-year average. Condition tables show the share of crops rated very poor, poor, fair, good, or excellent. NASS Crop Progress and Condition guide.

NASS says releases are scheduled for 4 p.m. on the first business day of each week from April 1 through November 30. Reports are available on the agency’s website and through email subscription. The agency’s release schedule is available at Reports by Title or Release Day.

How to interpret claims about a missed release

  • Check the year and publication date. The six-week interruption refers to the 2025 season and the November 10, 2025 article.
  • Check the official archive for the date in question. The archive lists reports by release date, including the October 5, 2026 release.
  • Keep estimates separate from official USDA data. Figures discussed in the 2025 article related to the week ending November 9 and were attributed to a Reuters analyst poll, not to a USDA Crop Progress release.
