The latest official ownership announcement identified is the English Football League’s 2 May 2026 statement that administrators had agreed to transfer Sheffield Wednesday’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch. That statement described the club as under new ownership and no longer in administration. But Companies House later recorded an extension of the administration period, so the legal position needs clarification. The official records cited here do not confirm a current John Textor bid, a recent fan protest or player statement, or unpaid wages in October 2026.
What is the latest Sheffield Wednesday takeover news?
On 2 May 2026, the EFL announced that the administrators had concluded an agreement with Arise Capital Partners LLC to transfer the club’s assets. The consortium was led by David Storch, alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The EFL said the club under new ownership met league requirements and was no longer regarded by the league as being in administration.
The EFL also said restrictions would continue under the new ownership: a budget restriction for the next two seasons, and a requirement that new player registrations comply with a business plan agreed with the league. These conditions mean the ownership announcement did not amount to an unrestricted financial reset.
Why is Sheffield Wednesday’s administration status unclear?
The EFL’s May description does not settle the later legal-status question. Sheffield Wednesday Football Club Limited’s Companies House filing history lists an administrator’s progress report filed on 2 June 2026 and a notice extending the administration period filed on 30 August 2026. Those later registry entries appear to conflict with the EFL’s statement that the club was no longer regarded as in administration.

The available dated statements do not explain that discrepancy. An updated statement from the EFL, the club or the administrators, or the underlying filings, is needed before stating definitively whether the legal administration ended or what the extension covered.
Is John Textor involved in the takeover?
The official ownership announcement names Arise Capital Partners LLC and its three identified members; it does not establish current involvement by John Textor. The official records cited here do not verify a Textor bid or negotiations to buy the club. Treat claims that he is a current prospective buyer as unconfirmed unless supported by a newer attributable statement.

Have Sheffield Wednesday fans protested, or have players issued a statement?
No recent protest or player statement is established by the official sources cited here. A protest report needs a date, location and organizer; a player statement needs an identifiable speaker, date and context. Without those details, neither should be presented as a verified current development.
Are Sheffield Wednesday players still owed wages?
The documented wage issues concern 2025, not current payroll. On 3 June 2025, the EFL announced charges against the club and then-owner Dejphon Chansiri relating to late or incomplete player wage payments in March and May that year. A Club Financial Review Panel decision later recorded non-payment on two occasions, in July and September 2025.

The panel recorded the club’s agreement with its report and recommendation for an eight-point deduction, to run concurrently with sanctions already imposed. Neither that decision nor the EFL’s earlier charges establish whether players are owed wages now. No current arrears amount or number of affected players is confirmed in the dated records described here.
What were the points deductions?
| Date and source | Decision or statement | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| 24 October 2025, EFL | The league said the club had taken steps to appoint administrators; it said that triggered an automatic 12-point deduction under the regulations then in force. | This was the administration-related deduction announced at that time. |
| December 2025, Club Financial Review Panel | The panel recorded an agreed recommendation for an eight-point deduction for further defaults and player non-payment in July and September 2025. | The recommendation was to run concurrently with other sporting sanctions, not as eight additional points on top of them. |
| December 2025, EFL | The EFL said administration and separate disciplinary proceedings had resulted in 18 points deducted in the 2025/26 season. | This was the league’s stated season total; it should not be conflated with a new deduction after the 2026 ownership announcement. |
| 2 May 2026, EFL | The league said it would not impose a further 15-point deduction on exit from administration. | This was a separate decision about a possible further sanction. |
What the EFL said about the new ownership
In its 2 May 2026 statement, EFL chief executive Trevor Birch said: “Together, we have managed to move this to a successful conclusion and I would like to wish everybody at the Club, in particular the new ownership and their associates, all the very best for a long and prosperous future that will benefit not only those at the Football Club, but also the supporters and the local community it represents.” The statement accompanied the Arise asset-transfer announcement and the league’s description of the club’s status and continuing restrictions.
