Clay Siegall’s Return to Biotech: From Morphimmune to Immunome

Clay Siegall’s 2023 return to biotech began at Morphimmune, a Purdue University spinout, before its merger with Immunome. A 2026 SEC proxy records his Immunome leadership since October 2023.

Clay Siegall’s return to biotech came in January 2023, when he became president and CEO of Morphimmune, a company described at the time as a Purdue University spinout. Morphimmune later merged with Immunome; a 2026 SEC proxy says Siegall has served as Immunome’s president, CEO, and board chair since October 2023.

What did the 2023 headline mean?

GeekWire reported on March 23, 2023, that Siegall had become president and CEO of Morphimmune. The move was presented as a return to biotech after his departure from Seagen. The article’s headline called Morphimmune a “Purdue University spinout,” but the available company and news materials do not specify Purdue’s exact licensing, ownership, or other formal relationship to the company. GeekWire’s March 2023 report also quoted Siegall: “I built a great company.”

What happened to Morphimmune?

On June 29, 2023, Immunome and Morphimmune announced an all-stock merger. The combined company would operate as Immunome, keep Immunome’s ticker, and be headquartered in Seattle. The announcement also described research laboratory facilities in Exton, Pennsylvania, and West Lafayette, Indiana; those were announced arrangements, not confirmation of the company’s present footprint. The transaction announcement included a concurrent $125 million private placement, a figure tied to that 2023 financing rather than current cash or funding. The merger announcement said Siegall would become the combined company’s CEO, president, and board chair following closing.

A 2026 SEC proxy records the merger as completed and says Siegall has held those three Immunome roles since October 2023. The SEC proxy statement is the later record for that leadership chronology.

How did Siegall’s Seagen career lead to the move?

According to an Immunome SEC filing, Siegall co-founded Seagen in July 1997. He served as its president from June 2000 to May 2022, CEO from November 2002 to May 2022, and board chair from March 2004 to May 2022. Before Seagen, the filing says he worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Pharmaceutical Research Institute from 1991 to 1997 and at the National Cancer Institute from 1988 to 1991. It lists a B.S. in Zoology from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in Genetics from George Washington University. The SEC filing supplies these dates and credentials.

Immunome’s undated board biography, accessed October 8, 2026, attributes four FDA-approved cancer therapies and more than $2 billion in annual revenue to Seagen during Siegall’s leadership. Those figures describe Seagen’s historical record, not Morphimmune’s or Immunome’s. GeekWire separately reported that Seagen generated $2 billion in revenue in 2022. Immunome’s board biography and GeekWire’s 2023 article provide those differently framed figures.

What was Morphimmune developing?

Morphimmune’s merger-era materials described a “Targeted Effector” toolbox for targeted oncology therapeutics. A July 2023 presentation listed a folate receptor-targeted TLR7 agonist, FA-TLR7a (Mi-1001), and a FAP-targeted radioligand, 177Lu-FAP, among its lead assets. It also projected IND filing targets in 2024 and 2025. Those dates were forecasts in the 2023 presentation, not evidence that either filing occurred. The merger presentation is available through Immunome’s investor-relations materials.

The merger announcement positioned Immunome’s human memory B-cell platform as a way to discover and develop antibody therapeutics, and described the combined company as pursuing cancer therapies across multiple modalities. These are company descriptions of its strategy; they do not establish clinical efficacy or successful development. The sources cited here do not establish Morphimmune’s current pipeline status.
