950 Lombard LLC, an entity reporting associates with Sam Altman, sued contractors and other parties over alleged construction defects at a San Francisco home. The complaint, filed in July 2024, says repairs could cost at least $4 million. Those are the plaintiff’s claims—not findings by a court.
Who filed the lawsuit?
The plaintiff named in the July 2024 complaint is 950 Lombard LLC, not Sam Altman personally. Contemporary reporting connects the LLC with Altman and says it was used to purchase the home. The case was filed in San Francisco Superior Court. The San Francisco Chronicle’s account of the filing and the complaint itself identify the plaintiff and dispute.
What property and project does the complaint describe?
The case concerns a residence at 950 Lombard Street in San Francisco. The complaint describes a historic home and cottage built around 1908 that underwent a major renovation, including installation of a cantilevered infinity pool. The Chronicle reported that the home was purchased for $27 million; that figure is purchase-price context from its 2024 coverage, not a current valuation.
The complaint describes a larger development effort involving five luxury properties in San Francisco from approximately 2012 to 2020. It identifies Troon and Malin as developers, Thompson Suskind and later Impact Builders as successive general contractors, and Aquascape as the pool subcontractor. It also refers to a separate arbitration award involving Troon and Malin. That background is part of the plaintiff’s account and does not establish liability in this lawsuit.

What does the complaint allege?
950 Lombard LLC alleges defects across multiple parts of the residence and its systems. The complaint and contemporaneous coverage describe claimed problems involving walls, ceilings, floors, roofs, foundations, plumbing, irrigation and drainage, sewer systems, waterproofing, mechanical systems, and the pool’s design and installation. The plaintiff also alleges that it was misled about the home’s condition and raises claims about prior knowledge of defects.
These allegations have not been established by the complaint itself. The available reporting and filing document what the plaintiff claims; they do not prove that any defendant knew about defects, misrepresented the property, or caused the losses alleged. The cited sources do not include a defense response or an independently verified inspection report.

How much does the plaintiff say repairs will cost?
The complaint says correcting the alleged defects would cost at least $4 million, as reported by the Chronicle in July 2024. This is the plaintiff’s estimate in the filing—not a court award, verified repair bill, or confirmed current cost.
