The Supreme Court of India’s 2025–2026 Law Clerk-cum-Research Associate recruitment is closed. Applications opened on January 14, 2025, and the deadline was February 7, 2025, at 23:55; the written examination was scheduled for March 9, 2025. The January 2025 notice invited applications to prepare a panel of approximately 90 candidates, not to fill 90 guaranteed permanent posts. For later opportunities, check the Court’s official recruitment listings and confirm the cycle and deadline in the relevant notice.
What was the Supreme Court Law Clerk recruitment 2025?
The Supreme Court of India’s January 10, 2025 advertisement invited applications for a panel of approximately 90 candidates for the 2025–2026 assignment. The work was described as a full-time, purely contractual engagement. The notice said it would not confer a right to regular appointment or continuing service, so this was not a permanent government job. The terms also barred selected candidates from taking another assignment or practising as advocates during the engagement. The Registry reserved the right to terminate an engagement with prescribed notice. See the Court’s recruitment listings.
For this specific assignment, the initial consolidated remuneration was ₹80,000 per month. That figure belongs to the 2025–2026 advertisement and should not be treated as the pay for a later recruitment cycle.
When was the last date to apply, and is the form still open?
Online registration for the 2025–2026 cycle ran from January 14 through February 7, 2025. The application deadline was 23:55 on February 7, 2025. That window has passed; applications for this cycle are not open now.

The fee was ₹500 plus applicable bank charges, payable online. Postal applications were not accepted. Applicants had to upload a recent photograph and signature, check their details before final submission, retain the application number, and print the completed form for their records. The notice said submitted applications could not be withdrawn or modified and the fee would not be refunded.
Who was eligible?
Law degree
Applicants needed a Bachelor’s degree in Law, including an integrated law degree, from an Indian school, college, university or institution established by law and recognized by the Bar Council of India for enrolment as an advocate.
Rank #2
Students in the fifth year of a five-year integrated law course, or the third year of a three-year law course after graduating in another stream, could apply. They had to provide proof of completing the law qualification before starting the assignment.
Age and skills
The age limit was 20 to 32 years as of February 7, 2025. This was the cut-off for the 2025 recruitment notice, not a standing age limit for future cycles. The Court also specified research and analytical skills, writing ability, and computer knowledge, including the ability to retrieve information using legal research tools. The notice named e-SCR, Manupatra, SCC Online, LexisNexis and Westlaw as examples; it did not require paid subscriptions or endorse a particular provider.

How did selection work, and when was the exam?
The written examination was scheduled for March 9, 2025, in two parts, followed by an interview.
| Stage | Format and focus |
|---|---|
| Part I | Online multiple-choice questions testing understanding and application of law, as well as comprehension. |
| Part II | Subjective questions displayed on a computer screen, with answers written by hand in pen-and-paper mode; the stated focus was writing and analytical skills. |
| Interview | Interview stage after the written examination. |
The two written parts were scheduled for the same day in separate sessions. The advertisement listed these 23 possible test cities: Ahmedabad, Ambala, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Visakhapatnam. The Court said the number of centres could change based on applications and its directions.

What syllabus and case materials did the Court identify?
A Court notice dated January 24, 2025 clarified that the CrPC, IPC and Indian Evidence Act syllabus was the same as the syllabus in paragraph F of the January 2024 scheme. The Court also published a list of cases relevant to the 2025 examination. It includes, among others, Balram Singh v. Union of India (2024 INSC 893), Aligarh Muslim University through its Registrar Faizan Mustafa v. Naresh Agarwal (2024 INSC 856), Central Organisation for Railway Electrification v. ECI SPIC SMO MCML (JV) (2024 INSC 857), and Tej Prakash Pathak v. Rajasthan High Court (2024 INSC 847). Consult the Court’s official recruitment page for the relevant examination materials; the cases list is not a substitute for the full syllabus.

In a notice dated August 22, 2025, the Supreme Court reported that 175 candidates had qualified the interview process and were placed in a reserve pool or wait list. This later-stage figure is distinct from the approximately 90 candidates anticipated for the recruitment panel in the original advertisement; the figures describe different stages and should not be read as the same count.
