The status labels below come from SASSA’s SRD guide, which uses the historical “R350” name; they should not be treated as a universal status table for every SASSA grant. For other grants, start with SASSA’s official services portal and select the relevant grant information.
Where to check your SASSA grant status
Use the official SASSA service for the grant you applied for. SASSA’s SRD site is the relevant starting point for an SRD application. The SASSA services portal provides grant information, application guidance and account registration, and its grant information page lists requirements by grant type.
The status guide described here is specifically for SRD. The available official materials do not establish that every other SASSA grant follows the same online status-check steps or uses the same labels. For a non-SRD grant, use the grant-specific guidance on SASSA’s portal rather than interpreting your result through the SRD table.
What each SRD status means and what to do
SASSA’s SRD guide explains the following labels and actions. Labels and routes can change, so follow the current instruction shown on the official service for your application.

| Application complete | The reapplication process is complete, but verification continues monthly. | Check your verification and payment status each month. |
| Bank details pending | SASSA received an application or reapplication but has not received banking details or a payment preference. | Submit the requested details through the official SRD site. |
| Reapplication pending | SASSA has not received a reapplication. | If you need to reapply, submit an application through the official SRD site. |
| Period pending | SASSA received the reapplication, and verification for that period is still pending. | Check again later in the month. |
| Period approved | Your application is approved for that period. | Check the pay-day field. If it does not show a date, SASSA’s guide says payment has not yet been processed. |
| Period declined | Your application was declined for that period, and a reason is provided. | Read the stated reason. If you believe it is wrong, use the reconsideration route identified in the official SRD guidance. |
| Canceled | The grant is canceled. | If you want to reinstate it, follow the reinstatement route in the official guidance. |
These meanings and next steps are from SASSA’s SRD status guide. A pending result is not one single situation: it may mean verification is underway or that a specific step, such as submitting bank details, remains outstanding. Use the instruction attached to your particular status.
Does an approved status mean the money has been paid?
Not necessarily. For an approved SRD period, SASSA’s guide directs you to the pay-day field. If that field is empty, the guide says the payment has not yet been processed. Check the field again for an updated payment date rather than treating approval alone as confirmation that funds are available.
What to do if your SRD application is declined
Open the reason shown for the declined period and compare it with your circumstances. If you dispute that reason, SASSA’s SRD guidance points to a reconsideration route. Follow the current official instructions for the relevant period; the guide’s terminology and routes may not remain unchanged.

SASSA lists 0800 60 10 11 for payout-date information and help understanding what happened to an application. The contact page says calls are toll-free from landlines, while cellular calls may cost money. SASSA also identifies this as its grants and fraud hotline for reporting suspected fraud or corruption.
