A 2010 report later documented a lease in Manassas, Virginia—but neither report shows that Horizon completed its broader national plan.
Which markets did Horizon plan to enter?
On July 29, 2009, Data Center Knowledge reported that Horizon had filled its first Dallas data center and begun work on a second. The company was evaluating sites in Northern Virginia, Houston and California with Dallas broker GVA Cawley. These were target markets, not evidence that facilities had opened in all three.
Horizon’s Dallas base comprised two reported Carrollton facilities: a 25,000-square-foot first site in a Digital Realty Trust building at 4025 Midway, and a 12,500-square-foot second site at 2440 Marsh Lane. The figures are from the 2009 report, not current measurements.
What was Horizon’s business model?
The company aimed at small and midsize businesses needing hosted IT infrastructure, as well as smaller projects for larger corporations. It planned to lease wholesale data-center space, acquire managed-services providers and combine facility operations with services for customers. The 2009 report said Horizon had acquired Mareechi in April of that year.

CEO Lance Smith described the intended niche this way: “In between colo and the large IT outsourcers, we find that the market genuinely needs a flexible approach for small to mid-sized customers,” the 2009 report quoted him as saying.
Did Horizon expand into Northern Virginia?
Yes, in a limited, documented sense. On March 12, 2010, Data Center Knowledge reported that Horizon had leased a suite at Power Loft in Manassas, its first reported East Coast expansion step. The suite was backed by 2 megawatts of power, with an option for an additional 10 megawatts.

The same report described an ambition of up to 120 MW across Dallas, Northern Virginia and California. That was planned capacity, not a verified delivered footprint. Houston appeared in the 2009 site search but not in this later three-market description, so the two accounts should not be conflated.

On July 7, 2010, a Horizon press release said Smith would focus on growth financing and strategic mergers and acquisitions in support of a previously announced “tri-coastal” strategy. It described the company’s offerings as colocation, managed services and infrastructure-as-a-service.

On September 21, 2011, Horizon announced that it was changing its corporate name to VAZATA, saying its offering had evolved beyond traditional colocation.
A 2020 New York court decision recounts a narrower later development: VAZATA sold its wholly owned subsidiary Horizon Data Center Solutions II to Day1 Solutions, and the Manassas lease was terminated in December 2015 after Day1 defaulted. The decision documents that subsidiary and lease history; it does not establish the present status or full footprint of all successor operations. See the 2020 court decision.
