How to pay for an Uber with cash

Open the ride-request flow, enter your pickup and destination, and check the payment selector before you request. Uber’s cash-trip instructions place this selector above the request button, though its location can vary by app version or market. Choose Cash if it is offered.

Review the estimate and make sure you can cover the final amount. Uber says a cash fare may include extra time or distance, waiting time, or an outstanding balance from a previous trip.

Uber’s cash-trip guidance says to change the payment method before the ride if you cannot pay the estimated cash amount. That page says the method cannot be changed during or after the trip; handling can differ by market, so follow the instructions in your own app.
Why cash may not appear in your Uber app
Cash is not available for every city, account, or trip. Uber’s missing-payment-option guidance recommends enabling location services if Cash is absent. Then check the payment choices shown for your trip: Uber does not provide a complete city-by-city list on that page.

Some local implementations may also require account verification before a rider can use cash. Uber’s general guidance does not establish a universal verification requirement, so use the directions displayed in your market rather than assuming that every rider needs to submit identification or add a digital payment method.
Can an Uber driver ask you to pay cash?
Not for the fare if you selected a digital payment method for that trip. Uber says drivers should not request cash for a digitally paid ride. If this happens, use the trip’s support flow to report it; Uber’s guidance on cash requests says to report the issue within 30 days.

Market-specific cash rules
Local rules may affect how cash rides work. For example, one Spanish-language Uber help page describes cash use for verified riders, possible credit to Uber Cash when a rider pays more than the fare, and restrictions on changing a destination or adding stops after the ride starts. Treat these as instructions for the market covered by that page, not universal rules; check your app and local guidance.
