Riyadh Air began daily passenger flights between Riyadh and London Heathrow on October 26, 2025, using its designated Boeing 787-9 technical spare, “Jamila.” That was separate from the later introduction of the airline’s newly delivered 787-9 Dreamliners on the route: planned for July 1, 2026, the first such flight was brought forward to June 10. The two dates describe different milestones, not conflicting launch reports.
What the October launch date means
Riyadh Air and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund announced the London route in October 2025, with passenger service scheduled to begin on October 26. The initial daily flights connected Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport with London Heathrow. PIF identified the aircraft used for this carefully sequenced initial service as “Jamila,” the airline’s designated Boeing 787-9 technical spare. PIF’s October 2025 announcement set out the original launch details.
So the October date refers to Riyadh Air’s first passenger operation on the Riyadh–Heathrow route. It does not refer to the debut of the airline’s newly delivered 787-9 aircraft.
How the new 787-9 service date changed
On May 21, 2026, PIF announced public ticket sales for London flights aboard Riyadh Air’s first new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, giving July 1 as the planned introduction date. In June, the airline moved the inaugural flight forward after the aircraft arrived earlier than expected. Saudi Press Agency reported on June 8 that the date had changed to June 10. Saudi Press Agency reported that flight RX401 departed Riyadh for Heathrow on June 10, 2026, and arrived at 7:30 a.m. local time aboard a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. This was the first London flight on the newly delivered aircraft, not Riyadh Air’s first London passenger flight overall. The agency’s June 10 report gives the flight and arrival details.

What travelers should verify before booking
PIF’s 2026 announcement said the daily Heathrow flights had operated from Terminal 4 since October 26, 2025. That is a dated route detail, not a guarantee of the terminal or schedule for a future journey. Launch announcements do not establish current fares, seat availability, operating frequency, or which aircraft will operate a particular flight. Check Riyadh Air’s live booking and flight-status information for the dates you plan to travel.

Why the distinction matters
Reports describing an October 2025 London launch and a June 2026 inaugural Dreamliner flight can both be accurate: one marks the start of passenger service on the route using Jamila; the other marks the first London service on the airline’s newly delivered 787-9 aircraft. Riyadh Air also described the June flight as its maiden international commercial flight, while its first domestic service—to Jeddah—launched four days later. In that context, “maiden” refers to the new-aircraft commercial expansion milestone, not the earlier start of London passenger operations.
Riyadh Air’s June 2026 announcement also named Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah, Madrid, and Manchester as destinations opening for ticket sales. Its stated ambition to serve more than 100 destinations by 2030 is a future target, not a count of destinations already served.
