Patriot Payroll Review: Plans, Pricing, Features, Pros and Cons

Patriot Payroll’s main choice is whether your business handles payroll-tax filings and deposits or pays more for Full Service handling after setup.

Patriot Payroll offers two plans with a key difference: Basic Payroll calculates payroll, but your business handles payroll-tax deposits and filings; Full Service Payroll includes Patriot’s tax collection, deposits, and filings once you complete setup and authorization. Patriot lists Basic at $17 per month plus $4 per worker paid and Full Service at $37 per month plus $5 per worker paid. These are vendor-published prices, so check Patriot’s current pricing before choosing a plan.

Patriot Payroll plans and pricing

Patriot charges a monthly base fee plus a fee for each worker paid. The following are the list prices on its pricing page; confirm current rates and add-on charges directly with Patriot.

Plan Advertised price Payroll-tax responsibility
Basic Payroll $17 per month plus $4 per worker paid Your business handles payroll-tax deposits and filings.
Full Service Payroll $37 per month plus $5 per worker paid Patriot handles tax collection, deposits, and filings after required setup and authorization.

To estimate the recurring plan charge, multiply the per-worker fee by the number of workers you pay in a month, then add the monthly base fee. For example, at the listed rates, a business paying five workers would pay $37 for Basic Payroll or $62 for Full Service Payroll before any add-ons or additional-state charges. This is arithmetic based on Patriot’s advertised prices, not a quote.

Patriot also lists optional Time & Attendance and HR add-ons. Their prices and precise inclusions can change, so consult the pricing page rather than assuming these tools come with payroll.

What is included in each plan?

Basic Payroll

Basic is for businesses that want payroll calculations but are prepared to manage their own payroll-tax deposits and filings. The software calculating payroll does not, by itself, mean the taxes have been filed or paid. The employer remains responsible for those tasks and their deadlines.

Full Service Payroll

Patriot lists federal, state, and local payroll-tax filings and deposits, as well as year-end payroll-tax filings, as included in Full Service. The service does not begin handling taxes merely because you sign up: Patriot’s setup instructions, dated July 7, 2026, say users must complete relevant setup tasks and authorize tax payments.

Before switching or starting service, gather your tax IDs, deposit frequencies, state unemployment details, payroll history, and intended service start date. Confirm the information and timing with Patriot, especially if you are moving from another provider or have filing deadlines approaching.

Payroll features Patriot advertises

Patriot’s payroll services page advertises unlimited payroll runs, an employee portal, direct deposit, auto payroll, and integrations. These are listed capabilities, not independent findings about reliability, ease of use, or how well a particular integration meets your needs. Check current plan terms and eligibility for the functions you expect to use.

Patriot says both payroll options support paying workers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. That geographic statement concerns payment availability; it does not mean every tax-filing obligation is included with Basic or that Full Service filing is identical in every jurisdiction. Patriot’s multi-state payroll page lists a $12-per-month charge for each additional state for Full Service filing. Verify the current fee, which locations it applies to, and your specific tax obligations before calculating a multi-state total.

Pros and cons of Patriot Payroll

Potential advantages

  • Patriot publishes base and per-worker prices for its two payroll plans, making the basic plan-cost calculation straightforward.
  • Advertised capabilities include unlimited payroll runs, an employee portal, direct deposit, auto payroll, and integrations.
  • Full Service is available for businesses that prefer Patriot to handle tax collection, deposits, and filings after setup and authorization.
  • Patriot says both plans support payments in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Tradeoffs to weigh

  • With Basic, the business retains payroll-tax deposit and filing work and the responsibility for meeting deadlines.
  • Full Service has a higher listed base fee and per-worker fee than Basic; its additional-state filing charge may raise costs for multi-state employers.
  • Full Service tax handling requires setup and authorization before it begins.
  • Optional HR and Time & Attendance features may cost extra.

These points describe the plans’ advertised features and structure; they do not establish independent service quality or performance.

How to decide whether Patriot Payroll fits your business

Start with the work you want to keep in-house. Basic may suit an employer with the knowledge and time to file and deposit payroll taxes correctly. If you want Patriot to take on those tasks, compare Full Service’s added cost with the value of shifting that work—while accounting for setup, authorization, and any applicable multi-state fees.

Before enrolling, compare the following for your actual payroll situation:

  • Total monthly cost: Use the number of workers you expect to pay, then add any relevant state fees and optional tools.
  • Tax duties: Confirm whether federal, state, and local tax collection, deposits, and filings are included for your jurisdictions and chosen plan.
  • Payroll logistics: Check payroll frequencies, direct-deposit eligibility and timing, and how your transition date affects the first payroll.
  • Connections and extras: Verify that the integrations you need are available and review separate charges for HR or time tracking.
  • Setup and support: Confirm required tax information, authorization steps, deadlines, and the support available for your account.

Patriot’s comparison page names ADP RUN, Deel, Gusto, OnPay, Paychex, QuickBooks Workforce, Rippling, and SurePayroll. That page is vendor-authored comparison material, not an independent ranking. Compare current terms directly with any provider you are considering; the official Patriot pages establish Patriot’s advertised prices and capabilities, not comparative performance or customer satisfaction.
