The club announced on 14 May 2025 that Redwood Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Dogwood LLC, had acquired 100% of the club’s shareholding, with the deal receiving English Football League (EFL) clearance. The reported transaction also included Select Car Leasing Stadium and the Bearwood Park training ground.
What changed in the Reading FC takeover?
The proposed sale became a completed acquisition, not just an agreement in principle. Redwood Holdings Limited was the buyer. It is a subsidiary of Dogwood LLC, which is owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. Couhig became Reading’s chairman, and both men joined the club’s board.
Reading’s announcement, reproduced by BBC Sport, said Redwood acquired 100% of the club’s shareholding. The club also said the sale covered the stadium and training ground. The public information cited here does not establish the purchase price, financing terms or private closing arrangements.
How the deal moved from proposal to completion
| Date | Status | What it meant |
|---|---|---|
| 27 March 2025 | Sale process ongoing | Reading said it remained in an exclusivity period with a proposed purchaser and described a proposal covering the club, stadium and training facility. It also reported a legal dispute involving Couhig and an alternative-security proposal. This was an earlier stage, not the final deal. BBC Sport |
| 22 April 2025 | EFL deadline extended | The EFL extended Dai Yongge’s deadline to divest his interests to 5 May, citing progress on the proposed sale. EFL |
| 3 May 2025 | Sale agreed in principle | Reading announced an in-principle sale to Redwood Holdings Limited, including the stadium and training ground, subject to legal technicalities. Reading FC |
| 14 May 2025 | Acquisition completed | BBC Sport reported that the deal had completed and received EFL ratification. Redwood acquired all of the club’s shares; Couhig and Trosclair joined the board, with Couhig as chairman. BBC Sport |
Who took over, and what happened to Dai Yongge?
The acquiring company was Redwood Holdings Limited, rather than Couhig personally. Redwood is described as a Dogwood LLC subsidiary; Dogwood is owned by Couhig and Trosclair, both from New Orleans, Louisiana. Couhig’s role at Reading changed from prospective buyer to chairman after completion. The club’s company-details page lists Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr as a director. Reading FC company details

The sale transferred the club’s entire shareholding from the previous ownership. The cited announcements establish that Dai Yongge was required to divest his interests and that the acquisition completed, but do not provide the private financial terms of his exit.
Why the EFL deadline mattered
On 22 April, the EFL said it had extended Yongge’s divestment deadline to Monday 5 May because progress had been made on the proposed sale. That extension preceded the 3 May announcement that a sale had been agreed in principle. Completion followed on 14 May, when the deal was reported as having EFL clearance. The extension was a procedural step in the sale process; it was not itself confirmation that the transaction had closed.

BBC Sport described the years under Yongge’s ownership as marked by financial difficulty and supporter protests. Its account cited repeated transfer embargoes, late wage and tax payments, and rule breaches involving profit and sustainability requirements and business-plan compliance. Reading fell to the third tier, and BBC reported deductions totaling 18 points across the three seasons of Yongge’s ownership. The report also recalled a fan protest that interrupted a match and the club being put up for sale in March 2024. BBC Sport
Couhig had tried to buy Reading before, but those negotiations broke down in September 2024. In 2025, the club entered an exclusivity period with a different, unnamed prospective buyer; that process did not produce the completed transaction. The Redwood acquisition was the outcome of a later sale process.
