That dated announcement does not establish who owns the club now. The separate headline claim that Dai Yongge was “frustrated” could not be verified from the available reporting, so it should not be treated as a confirmed quote or fact.
What is the latest confirmed Reading FC takeover update?
The latest confirmed milestone in the available sources is Reading FC’s 3 May 2025 announcement of a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited. The club said the proposed deal included the Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park Training Ground, and identified Redwood as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. The announcement said formal completion remained subject to final legal technicalities. Reading FC’s announcement therefore confirms an agreement in principle at that date—not, by itself, a completed sale or the club’s ownership status in October 2026.
How did the sale process reach that announcement?
The negotiations changed over time, so an expired exclusivity period in one round should not be confused with the later agreement in principle.
- 7 October 2024: Reading FC said it had agreed exclusivity with a potential purchaser. The proposed sale included Dai Yongge’s shareholding, the stadium and Bearwood Park. The club also reported a formal EFL registration embargo connected to late filing of its 2022–23 accounts. Reading FC’s statement
- 4 February 2025: BBC Sport reported that exclusivity with an unnamed group had expired, putting that proposed takeover in doubt, and that the club was discussing alternatives. This described the status of that negotiation at the time; it did not rule out later talks. BBC Sport’s report
- 27 March 2025: Reading FC said exclusivity remained in place with a proposed purchaser, with the club, stadium and training facility included. It also said Dai Yongge was required to divest his interests following his disqualification as a director. Reading FC’s statement
- 22 April 2025: The EFL said it had extended the divestment deadline to 5 May 2025, subject to compliance with other league regulations, and that progress had been made on the proposed sale. That was a historical deadline, not a current one. The EFL’s statement

Is Dai Yongge confirmed to be “frustrated”?
No. The available sources do not verify the headline’s “frustrated” wording, identify its original speaker or provide the context for it. It should not be presented as a direct quote from Dai Yongge or as an established account of his views. A feed review also did not surface the exact headline, but that alone cannot establish that no such report exists.

There is a separate, attributable comment about the club’s finances: in a statement on 15 January 2024, the EFL said it had become increasingly clear that Dai Yongge was “no longer in a position – or does not have the motivation – to support the Club financially” as he had after the 2017 change of control. That was the league’s characterization at that time, not a statement by Dai Yongge and not evidence that he later felt frustrated. Read the EFL’s January 2024 statement.

The 2025 milestones show that Reading moved from earlier negotiations to a named sale-in-principle agreement. They do not establish that the transaction subsequently completed or identify the club’s present owner. A current ownership claim needs a newer confirmation of completion from the club or another reliable source. No competing current offers are established by these dated reports, either.
