RAM market forecasts still point upward, but they do not tell you how much a particular kit will cost at checkout. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 forecast projects conventional DRAM contract prices to rise 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26. That is an upstream market forecast—not a prediction that every DDR4 or DDR5 retail kit will rise by the same amount.
What the latest RAM price forecast says
TrendForce expects conventional DRAM contract prices to increase 10–15% quarter over quarter in 4Q26. The forecast is for negotiated prices between memory suppliers and large buyers; it is not a US, global, or regional retail-kit price index. TrendForce’s 30 September 2026 outlook is the latest detailed forecast used here.
The rate of forecast increases has changed through 2026. These figures describe quarter-specific contract-price forecasts, not a continuous series of retail prices:
| Forecast date | Period covered | Conventional DRAM contract-price forecast |
|---|---|---|
| 2 February 2026 | 1Q26 | Up 90–95% quarter over quarter |
| July 2026 | 3Q26 | Up 13–18% quarter over quarter |
| 30 September 2026 | 4Q26 | Up 10–15% quarter over quarter |
The February figure is historical context, not a current forecast or a measure of how much a consumer kit has risen. The releases also cover different quarters, so they should not be treated as a like-for-like price history. TrendForce’s February revision is published here; its 3Q26 forecast is published here.

Why DRAM prices are under pressure
Server and AI demand compete for capacity
TrendForce says suppliers are prioritizing advanced-process capacity for high-performance server products. Cloud providers and server OEMs are increasing memory procurement for general servers and agentic AI workloads. That shift leaves conventional DRAM supply tight, while limits in packaging, testing, and production flexibility make it difficult to redirect capacity quickly.
PC demand is weaker, but procurement remains supported
Higher component costs are being passed through to notebook prices, weighing on sales. At the same time, PC manufacturers are still procuring memory because they expect supply to remain tight in 2027. TrendForce also projects that PC DRAM supply could decline in 2027 as capacity shifts further toward server applications. These are the firm’s expectations, not a certainty.

Weaker consumer demand can temper price increases without immediately undoing supply constraints: the buyers and products affected are not all competing for identical capacity, and procurement decisions can reflect expectations about future availability.
What “RAM price” can mean
Price comparisons are useful only when they refer to the same market level and product. TrendForce separates chip spot prices from module spot prices, and both differ from negotiated contract prices and store listings.

- Contract price: An upstream negotiated price between suppliers and large buyers. TrendForce’s quarterly DRAM forecasts refer to this measure.
- Chip spot price: A spot-market quote for DRAM chips, rather than a finished memory module.
- Module spot price: A market observation for a module category. TrendForce lists DDR4 and DDR5 UDIMM categories; its module spot table was last updated on 28 September 2026. These observations are market references, not store prices for a particular country.
- Retail price: The amount a shopper is offered for a specific kit, seller, location, and date. The reviewed sources do not establish current matched retail prices for particular kits.
TrendForce’s DRAM spot-price page presents chip and module spot sections separately. Its module categories do not establish the compatibility, quality, or value of any particular consumer product.
Why a contract forecast does not predict your kit’s checkout price
A forecast that contract prices rise 10–15% does not mean an individual kit’s store price will rise 10–15%, or rise at all during the same quarter. Contract pricing is upstream; retail listings are for specific products and are affected by seller, region, inventory, and timing. The reviewed sources do not quantify how quickly or by how much contract-price changes pass through to retail prices.

For a current buying decision, compare live listings in your own market for kits that actually work in your computer. Record the seller and date: an old listing, a module-market quote, and a current retail offer are not interchangeable evidence.

Price alone cannot identify a suitable kit. Compare compatible options on the attributes that determine whether they fit your system and provide the capacity and performance you need:
- Generation: DDR4 and DDR5 are different memory generations. Your motherboard or laptop determines which one is supported.
- Form factor: Desktop systems commonly use DIMMs; laptops commonly use smaller SO-DIMMs. Check your system documentation rather than relying on the product title.
- Capacity and configuration: Compare total capacity and the number of modules. A two-module configuration may be appropriate for a system designed to use two memory channels, but compatibility and supported configurations depend on the computer.
- Speed and latency: Check the kit’s rated speed and latency against the motherboard or laptop’s supported specifications. A headline speed does not guarantee the system will run memory at that setting.
- Compatibility and price: Confirm the exact computer or motherboard model supports the kit, then compare current local prices for equivalent capacities and configurations.
The available market data establishes that DDR4 and DDR5 modules are distinct categories; it does not rank kits or verify a specific system’s compatibility. Consult the computer or motherboard manufacturer’s specifications before purchasing.
Should you buy RAM now or wait?
The market forecast alone cannot answer that for every buyer. It signals that TrendForce expects contract prices to keep rising in 4Q26, while saying nothing definitive about the timing or size of retail changes for a particular kit. If you need memory to complete a build or fix a capacity shortage, compare compatible local offers and decide based on the cost and urgency of that upgrade. If the purchase is optional, track the same compatible products and sellers over time rather than assuming the contract forecast maps directly to your checkout price.
