Pak-Qatar General Takaful Limited’s (PQGTL) IPO drew demand equal to 21 times the shares offered in its book-building tranche—not across the entire IPO. The separate retail/public portion was subscribed about 9.6 times. Trading on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) began on February 10, 2026, at PKR 14 per share. The debut was described as historic because PQGTL was reported as Pakistan’s first dedicated non-life takaful operator to list on PSX, not the country’s first takaful listing of any kind.

What does 21x oversubscribed mean for the PQGTL IPO?

It means investor bids in the book-building process amounted to 21 times the shares allocated to that tranche. The figure describes demand relative to a specific pool of shares; it does not mean every applicant received 21 times their requested shares, nor does it measure the IPO’s later share-price performance.

The IPO comprised 30 million ordinary shares, equal to 29.67% of PQGTL’s post-IPO paid-up capital, according to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) prospectus approval announcement of January 7, 2026. The offer was divided between book-building and a separate public subscription:

Offer tranche Shares offered Reported demand Price and dates
Book-building 22.5 million, or 75% of the 30 million-share IPO 21x oversubscribed, as reported by Business Recorder on January 23, 2026; total demand was PKR 4.74 billion PSX’s January 15 notice set a PKR 10 floor and PKR 14 maximum. The final strike price was reported as PKR 14.
Public subscription 7.5 million 71,668,000 shares applied for across 13,013 applications: approximately 9.56x, commonly rounded to 9.6x The subscription window was January 28–29, 2026. The issuer’s February 2 filing reported applications worth PKR 1,003,352,000.

The two multiples should not be combined or treated as interchangeable: each measures demand against a different share pool. PQGTL’s filing to PSX supplies the public-tranche share and application counts; Business Recorder reported the book-building multiple.

Why was PQGTL’s PSX debut called historic?

Business Recorder described PQGTL as Pakistan’s first dedicated non-life takaful operator to list on PSX. That category-specific wording matters: Pak-Qatar Family Takaful Limited had listed earlier, so PQGTL was not Pakistan’s first takaful company to list. The significance was the listing of a dedicated general/non-life takaful operator.

In Business Recorder’s February 12, 2026 report, PQGTL CEO Saqib Zeeshan called it “this historic listing of a first ‘Dedicated Non-life’ Takaful operator.” The description refers to the company’s place in the listed market, not a guarantee about its prospects or returns.

When did Pak-Qatar General Takaful start trading on PSX?

PSX published its listing notice on February 9, 2026, and said trading would commence the next day, February 10, at PKR 14 per share. The exchange listed the symbol as PQGTL, classified it in the Insurance sector, and said its shares were deemed Shariah-compliant and included in the KMIALLSHR index from listing.

Does 21x IPO demand indicate future upside?

No. Oversubscription records how demand compared with the number of shares available in a particular tranche during the offer. It does not establish the company’s fair value, predict future returns, or show whether the share is suitable for an individual investor. The book-building multiple is evidence of strong demand during that process, not a forecast of post-listing performance.

A later share-price comparison also needs a dated quote. PSX’s profile showed PKR 12.51 at 3:43 PM Pakistan time on October 8, 2026; that is a snapshot from that time, not a current quote after that moment. Check the live PSX profile before relying on a price.
