1. Search for the specific item

4. Set a price range that helps you compare
Use the price filter to bring listings within your budget into view. Do not assume the lowest result is the best value: an unusually low price may reflect damage, missing parts, a misleading description, or a scam. Compare what each listing includes and what it will cost you to complete the purchase.

- Check whether the description answers the key questions for that item.
- Look for visible wear or damage in the photos, and ask about anything unclear.
- Confirm which accessories, components, or original parts are included.
- Ask for missing specifications or details that could change the item’s value.
- Make sure the photos and description appear to describe the same item.
6. Review seller information and ratings as context
Facebook’s Marketplace shopping-safety guidance links to information about sellers and Marketplace ratings. Review the available information, but treat it as context rather than a guarantee that a seller or listing is trustworthy. 7. Pause when the price seems too good to be true

8. Be cautious with advance payments and payment messages
Meta describes advance-payment scams in which a purported seller takes payment and then stops responding without shipping the item. The Federal Trade Commission also warns online sellers about fake payment notifications, requests to refund supposed overpayments, and fake-check schemes. Its advice is useful when a Marketplace conversation involves payment claims or refunds, even though those examples may target sellers rather than buyers. Read the FTC’s online-selling scam guidance and Meta’s payment-scam guidance.
Before paying, check the transaction method and any applicable purchase protection directly in current Facebook guidance for your region. Do not assume a payment method is protected everywhere, or rely on a message claiming that payment or protection has been confirmed without verifying it through the relevant official channel.

9. Plan the handoff before you commit
For an in-person exchange, review Facebook’s current Marketplace meetup and responsible-buying guidance before arranging where and how to meet. Facebook’s shopping-safety resources provide links to that guidance. An in-person meeting does not, by itself, verify an item or make a transaction risk-free.
