8 Facts About Tony Khan’s Dad, Shahid Khan, That AEW Fans Should Know

Shahid Khan is Tony Khan’s father, an automotive entrepreneur, and the longtime owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also backed Tony’s plan to launch All Elite Wrestling (AEW), despite initially doubting the idea. Here are eight key facts about the person behind that family and business connection.

1. Shahid Khan was born in Lahore and came to the United States as a teenager

2. He studied industrial engineering at the University of Illinois

3. He worked in automotive manufacturing before starting his own company

While studying, Khan worked as a dishwasher, Carnegie reports. After graduating, he joined Flex-N-Gate, an automotive supplier, and became its engineering director. 4. A one-piece bumper helped launch his business

In 1978, Khan founded Bumper Works. The Jaguars say he used $13,000 in personal savings and $50,000 from a Small Business Loan Corporation to start it. Carnegie describes the company’s bumper as lightweight and rustproof, and says major automakers adopted the product. 5. He bought Flex-N-Gate from his former employer

6. NFL owners approved his Jaguars purchase in 2011; the deal closed in 2012

Khan became the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars after NFL owners unanimously approved the purchase on December 14, 2011. The transaction closed on January 4, 2012. Approval and closing were separate steps, as the team’s account makes clear. Jacksonville Jaguars.

7. The Khan family’s sports connections extend beyond the Jaguars

Shahid’s connection to the Jaguars is ownership. Forbes’ 2021 profile of Tony Khan also describes Tony’s analytics work for the Jaguars and Fulham, the English football club. Those are distinct roles: the profile discusses Tony’s work, not a shared day-to-day management arrangement. 8. He supported Tony’s AEW plan after initially doubting it

Forbes reported in 2021 that Shahid Khan made a major investment in AEW and quoted him describing his first reaction to Tony’s proposal: “I absolutely didn’t think this was a good idea.” He ultimately supported the venture. What Khan’s story says—and what it does not

Khan’s documented milestones trace a path from engineering and automotive manufacturing to ownership of an NFL team and financial support for AEW. Carnegie quotes him, speaking to Forbes, saying: “You can do anything you want to do,” and adding, “You have to work hard, you have to create your own luck, and you have to have some luck also.
