Where to shop for vinyl records online
These seven routes serve different needs rather than forming a universal ranking. Catalogs, prices, availability, and shipping terms change, so check the specific listing before placing an order.

1. Discogs: specific pressings and rarities
Discogs is a marketplace used by collectors, independent record stores, and other sellers. It is especially useful when you want a specific pressing or a record that is difficult to find elsewhere. WIRED reported about 12 million records for sale in the United States in its April 18, 2026 shopping guide; that is a dated article figure, not a live or audited inventory count. WIRED’s guide to buying vinyl online
2. Bandcamp: independent music and direct purchases
Bandcamp lets you browse vinyl by genre, new releases, or geographic scene, and buy from artists and labels. Some releases offer exclusive variants, bundles, signed items, or previews, but availability and terms differ by release. Check the item page for stock, shipping, and what is included in a bundle.
#1 Best Overall
- COLLECTION STARTER lots can be used for vintage decoration, as party items or unique gifts
- GENUINE VINYL RECORDS are in this lot. Most of these records are playable but some may come scuffed or the labels may have faded
- CREATIVE TYPES use these to make room dividers, curtains, shop decors, heat them up and shape them into bowls, ashtrays, key chains, guitar picks
- VARIOUS GENRES may be found in this lot. Blues, rock, jazz, rnb, hip-hop, pop, sould, disco, country genres are most common ones
3. eBay: inexpensive lots and collection auctions
eBay can be useful if you are open to buying a group of records or browsing collection auctions. The trade-off is uncertainty: a lot may not contain the titles or condition you expect, and listing descriptions vary. Read the full description and inspect photographs; for a costly rare record, a specialist listing with clearer pressing and condition details may be a better fit.
4. Tower Records: mainstream releases and preorders
Tower Records’ online shop is a place to look for mainstream vinyl releases and preorders. Confirm that the exact title is listed and that a preorder is still open; release timing and availability can change.

5. Midheaven Mailorder: independent-label records
Midheaven Mailorder is a consumer-facing operation run by distributor Revolver USA, with a focus on releases from smaller and midsize independent labels. Browse it when you want to explore that part of the catalog, and check current item availability and shipping terms before ordering.
6. Amoeba Music: an independent record-store option
Amoeba Music’s online shop offers another way to shop with an independent record store. It may suit buyers who already know the title or artist they want. Treat it as a store to check, not a guarantee of current stock or the lowest price.

Rank #3
- Olivia Rodrigo's highly anticipated third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, follows her critically acclaimed LPs GUTS and SOUR
7. The artist’s or label’s official store
If you already know which artist or label you want to support, check its official store for vinyl releases and variants. WIRED’s guide names Stones Throw, Sub Pop, Secretly Group, Fat Possum, Rough Trade, Daptone, Blue Note, and International Anthem among labels with direct-sale websites. A direct store can be a useful route to label releases, but each store sets its own stock, shipping, and purchase terms.
How to check a used or collectible record before buying
On Discogs, the individual seller and listing matter as much as the marketplace. Discogs Community Support recommends checking the item’s Goldmine condition grade and reviewing seller location, inventory, ratings, feedback, and terms. If the grade or listing is unclear, ask the seller for details before committing. Discogs buyer tips
Rank #4
- Lynyrd Skynyrd's greatest hits are available now on vinyl! With the original album certified 5x platinum, this LP is a must buy for Skynyrd fans everywhere
- Confirm the pressing. Match the release details to the version you want; an album title alone may not identify a particular edition.
- Assess condition. Read the stated grade and description. Ask about grading if the listing leaves a material question unanswered.
- Review the seller. Check feedback, location, and other listings rather than relying on a single description.
- Calculate the full cost. Check shipping charges and the seller’s return and refund terms before paying.
- Compare prices carefully. Discogs recommends comparing an asking price with recent sales history, which can give more context than another seller’s current asking price.
- Keep the transaction on-platform. Discogs advises using on-platform communication and payment, requesting tracking, and allowing more time for international delivery. These are safety recommendations, not guarantees about a seller or delivery date.
Finding more independent record stores
Recordstore.com maintains a directory of US-based shops listed on Discogs; its live listing describes 200 established stores ranked by recent selling activity. The count and ranking can change, and activity rank is not a guarantee of store quality. Use the directory to find possible sellers, then assess the shop’s own listings, terms, and feedback before ordering. Recordstore.com directory
