For new toys intended as Christmas gifts, start with your local Toys for Tots campaign or a Salvation Army Angel Tree program. For gently used toys, check Salvation Army thrift drop-offs or your local Goodwill affiliate. Because collection sites, accepted items, and deadlines vary by community and season, confirm the current instructions before driving. Without a city or ZIP code, these are seven practical routes to check—not seven guaranteed open locations.
Seven places to check for toy donations
1. Your local Toys for Tots campaign
Use the Toys for Tots campaign finder to select your state and local area, then follow that campaign’s instructions for toy donations or collection sites. The national organization directs donors to local campaign details, so a national page cannot confirm whether a particular box is open or when it closes.

Toys for Tots says most chapters assist children up to age 12, though some communities extend the age limit. Its FAQ says realistic-looking weapons and gifts containing food will not be distributed. Ask your campaign about any uncertain item. The organization does not publish a fixed list of appropriate toys; it asks donors to choose what they consider a suitable gift.
2. A Salvation Army Angel Tree registry
The Salvation Army’s Holiday Giving page describes Angel Tree as a seasonal way to provide new toys and clothing for children. Check the Angel Tree page for registry or local-unit instructions. Participation, gift requests, and deadlines are seasonal; confirm what your local program currently needs and whether gifts must be purchased through a registry.

The Salvation Army reports that Angel Tree provided Christmas gifts to more than one million children in the prior Christmas season. It also reports that 2,562,029 individuals and families received holiday assistance in 2025. These are the organization’s reported figures.
3. A participating Walmart Angel Tree location or collection bin
Some Walmart stores participate in the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, with tags and collection bins described on the Angel Tree page. Check that your specific store is participating this season and verify the tag, drop-off, and gift handoff instructions before you shop or bring a donation.

4. A Salvation Army corps or community center
Use the Salvation Army’s location finder to find a nearby unit, then ask whether it accepts toys for a seasonal program. Confirm whether gifts must be new, what condition is required, and the delivery deadline; ordinary donations and Angel Tree gifts may follow different procedures.
5. A Salvation Army thrift drop-off
For gently used toys, look up a nearby Salvation Army donation point through its donation location finder and confirm that the local site accepts toys. The Salvation Army lists gently used toys among donations accepted at its drop-off locations. Its website reports more than 2,500 U.S. drop-off locations; check the live locator for a current nearby option rather than assuming every site takes every item.

6. A local Goodwill donation center
Find your local organization and donation site with Goodwill Industries International’s locator. Donation policies are set by local affiliates, so ask about toy acceptance before dropping anything off.
For example, Goodwill Manasota’s regional item guidance says it accepts clean, gently used toys with all parts included and new, unwrapped toys. It accepts stuffed animals only when they have no recalls or safety hazards. Those are Manasota’s rules, not a nationwide Goodwill policy.

7. A local nonprofit or community toy drive
A family-service nonprofit, community center, school, library, fire station, or neighborhood holiday drive may be a lead worth contacting. Do not treat the address as a confirmed collection point until the organization verifies that the drive is active, authorized, accepting toys, and open to your donation. No universal acceptance policy applies to these categories.

In general, choose a seasonal gift program for a new present intended for a child, and a thrift or local donation channel for a used toy—unless the local program says otherwise. A donation center may resell items or use them in local services rather than distribute each toy as a Christmas gift.

Check these details before you go
- Condition: Ask whether the site accepts only new gifts or also gently used toys, and whether packaging or all parts are required.
- Collection status and hours: Confirm the exact address is an active drop-off point this season and is open when you plan to visit.
- Deadline and handoff: Ask when donations are due and whether you should use a registry, campaign collection box, or staffed location.
- Item restrictions: Follow the receiving program’s rules. Toys for Tots specifically excludes realistic-looking weapons and gifts containing food from distribution.
- Receipt and tax treatment: Do not assume a donation is tax-deductible or that a receipt or pickup is available; check the receiving organization’s current policy.
Toys for Tots lists more than 800 campaign sites in its FAQ, and the Salvation Army reports more than 2,500 U.S. drop-off locations. Those organization-reported totals do not establish that a site near you is open or accepting toys today; use the local finder or campaign page for the current details.
