Jay-Z’s business portfolio spans entertainment, hospitality, streaming, spirits, investment and apparel. But “owned” needs qualification: the seven examples below include co-founded businesses, a joint venture and brands whose ownership has changed. They are notable ventures, not a definitive or exhaustive ranking, and the available sources do not establish his current equity in every one.
How to read this list
Founding a company, co-owning it and holding a current equity stake are different things. The relationships below reflect what the cited sources document; where they do not establish present ownership, that uncertainty is stated rather than filled in with a guess.
Seven notable businesses associated with Jay-Z
| Business | Sector | Documented connection | What is established about ownership |
|---|---|---|---|
| The 40/40 Club | Hospitality | Co-founded in 2003 with Desiree Perez and Juan Perez, according to the club’s official biography. | The source documents the co-founding and describes the Manhattan flagship and expansion to other locations; it does not state ownership percentages or establish the current operating footprint. |
| Roc Nation | Entertainment | Jointly founded in 2008 with Desiree Perez, Juan Perez, Jay Brown and Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, according to the club’s official biography. | The biography describes work in artist representation, brand management, marketing, touring and production. It does not establish Jay-Z’s present equity share. |
| TIDAL | Music streaming | The 40/40 Club biography says Jay-Z became a co-owner in 2015. | Block announced an agreement to acquire a majority ownership stake in TIDAL in 2021. The announcement establishes a change in ownership, but the reviewed sources do not disclose Jay-Z’s current remaining share. |
| D’USSÉ | Cognac | D’USSÉ’s founder page describes Shawn “JAY-Z” Carter and Bacardi as founders of the brand. | Forbes reports that Jay-Z sold a majority of his stake to Bacardi in 2023. He is a co-founder and former stakeholder; the cited sources do not establish his current share. |
| Armand de Brignac | Champagne | LVMH describes the Champagne house as a joint venture between Jay-Z and Moët Hennessy. | LVMH’s 2023 Universal Registration Document records that it acquired a 50% stake in 2021. That is a joint-venture relationship, not evidence that Jay-Z wholly owns the house. The brand identifies Brut Gold as its most iconic cuvée. |
| Marcy Venture Partners / MarcyPen Capital Partners | Investment | The 40/40 Club biography says Jay-Z co-founded Marcy Venture Partners in 2018. D’USSÉ’s founder page identifies the firm as now MarcyPen Capital Partners. | The reviewed sources do not establish current ownership percentages or operating details. |
| Rocawear and Paper Planes | Apparel | The 40/40 Club biography says Jay-Z established Rocawear and later supported Paper Planes. | The biography describes Paper Planes as a Roc Nation-owned apparel line. The sources do not establish Jay-Z’s current direct ownership of either apparel venture. |
What changed for TIDAL, D’USSÉ and Armand de Brignac
TIDAL: co-ownership followed by a majority-stake deal
The 40/40 Club biography dates Jay-Z’s becoming a TIDAL co-owner to 2015. In 2021, Block (then Square) announced plans to acquire a majority ownership stake. That announcement does not, by itself, specify Jay-Z’s current share.
D’USSÉ: co-founded with Bacardi, then a majority stake sale
Bacardi’s brand announcement identifies D’USSÉ as a Cognac brand and names VSOP and XO among its expressions. Forbes reports that Bacardi bought a majority of Jay-Z’s stake in 2023. These facts support describing him as a co-founder and former stakeholder, not as the brand’s current majority owner.

Armand de Brignac: a joint venture with Moët Hennessy
LVMH describes Armand de Brignac as a joint venture with Jay-Z, while its 2023 registration document records LVMH’s acquisition of a 50% stake in 2021. The available figures describe LVMH’s stake; they do not establish Jay-Z’s current percentage.

Several ventures on this list have documented partners or changed ownership. The 40/40 Club, Roc Nation and D’USSÉ have co-founders; Armand de Brignac is explicitly a joint venture; and the TIDAL and D’USSÉ ownership records show later transactions. A founding role is meaningful, but it is not proof of sole ownership today. For private ventures such as Roc Nation and MarcyPen Capital Partners, the cited sources do not provide current equity percentages.
