Sportico estimates his inflation-adjusted career earnings at $4.5 billion; Tiger Woods is second at $2.88 billion, and Cristiano Ronaldo is third, according to reporting on the ranking. These are estimates of career earnings, not audited income or net worth.
Who are the highest-paid athletes of all time?
Sportico’s latest identified all-time ranking measures earnings through the end of 2025. The available reporting establishes the top three, but not a verifiable complete set of all 50 entries. The table below therefore gives only the ranks and figures supported by the accessible sources, rather than filling gaps with older or unrelated rankings.
| Rank | Athlete | Career earnings estimate | Source and cutoff |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Michael Jordan | $4.5 billion, adjusted for inflation | Sportico estimate reported by Yahoo Sports in 2026; earnings through December 31, 2025 |
| 2 | Tiger Woods | $2.88 billion, adjusted for inflation | Sportico, 2026; earnings through December 31, 2025 |
| 3 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Not stated in the cited reporting | Sportico ranking order reported by Yahoo Sports in 2026; earnings through December 31, 2025 |
Sportico reports that the full top 50 earned a combined $56.2 billion after inflation adjustment, or $40 billion in nominal dollars, through the end of 2025. The two totals use different dollar bases: the adjusted figure accounts for inflation, while the nominal figure adds earnings in the dollars received at the time.
What “highest-paid of all time” means
This is a career-to-date earnings comparison, not a ranking of current salaries, a single season, or personal wealth. Career earnings can include money received after an athlete stops competing when the ranking counts those sources. The available Sportico material emphasizes Jordan’s continuing Nike-related income as a contributor to his lead, but does not supply a complete income breakdown for every athlete.
#1 Best Overall
- Career earnings: income accumulated across the measured career period, as estimated for the ranking.
- Inflation-adjusted earnings: historical amounts expressed on an adjusted dollar basis to make comparisons across years more meaningful.
- Net worth: an estimate of assets minus liabilities. It is not interchangeable with earnings, and the figures here should not be read as athletes’ net worth.
The ranking’s figures are estimates, not audited personal-income totals. The accessible Sportico post and reporting do not establish the complete 50-person table or detailed historical valuation rules, so ranks and totals beyond the entries shown above should not be inferred from this article.
Why this is different from an annual athlete earnings list
Annual rankings answer a different question. Forbes’ 2026 highest-paid athletes list covers May 1, 2025 through May 1, 2026 and combines on-field earnings with estimated off-field income, including sponsorships, appearance fees, licensing or memorabilia, and business returns. Its 2025 methodology used a different annual window, May 1, 2024 to May 1, 2025. Neither annual list is directly comparable to a career total without accounting for the time period and dollar basis.
For the all-time ranking, the relevant cutoff is December 31, 2025. A single-year earnings figure cannot be added to or ranked against a career-to-date amount as if both measured the same period.

Sportico’s publisher post identifies Jordan and Woods as the first two and gives Woods’s adjusted total and the aggregate top-50 totals. Yahoo Sports reports the Jordan-Woods-Ronaldo order and Jordan’s adjusted estimate. The full Sportico table and detailed estimation rules are not available in the cited material, so no complete list of 50 ranks is presented here.
