Five used-car examples have been reported below $50,000 with more than 500 horsepower, but the available price figures date to 2023—not today. They are useful starting points for a search, not proof that any of these cars can currently be bought at those prices. The promised list of 15 cannot be substantiated from the available examples, so this guide sticks to the five documented candidates and explains how to check whether one fits your budget now.
Five documented used-car candidates
MotorBiscuit’s July 2023 article gives historical fair-value estimates for the following model-year and trim examples. Those estimates are not current asking prices, and they do not establish present-day availability. Confirm the exact trim, condition, mileage and local price before treating any example as a $50,000 purchase.

| Exact example | Reported power | Price figure reported in July 2023 | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 BMW M5 | 560 hp; 500 lb-ft | About $36,386 fair purchase price for average mileage; $41,737 with 50,000 miles | Both figures are historical estimates, not current offers. |
| 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 | 662 hp; 631 lb-ft | About $36,828 fair value for an example with roughly 90,803 miles | The reported value is tied to a high-mileage example; condition and service records matter. |
| 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat | 707 hp; 650 lb-ft | About $38,570 fair value for average mileage | The model was offered with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. |
| 2013 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 | 505 hp | $49,852 fair value | The reported estimate sits only $148 below the budget cap, before any applicable taxes, fees or repairs. |
| 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG | 530 hp; 590 lb-ft | About $37,126 for average mileage | This is a dated price estimate; verify the specific car and its condition. |
All five specifications and price estimates in the table were reported by MotorBiscuit in 2023. The figures should not be read as current market values or guaranteed transaction prices.

The documented shortlist supports five examples, not 15. Adding more models without checking each exact year and trim would risk including cars that miss the horsepower cutoff or no longer fit the price ceiling. Current listings also vary by location, mileage, condition and seller; no current inventory or regional asking-price range is established here.

For a strict “over 500 hp” screen, exactly 500 hp does not qualify. Nor does a vehicle qualify simply because another trim or model year exceeds the threshold. Use the specification for the precise year, trim and powertrain you are considering.
New-car examples show why the thresholds matter
These official announcements illustrate how easily a near-match can fail one part of the test:

- 2026 Dodge Durango R/T 392 Launch Edition: Dodge announced 475 hp and a U.S. starting MSRP of $49,995, excluding tax, title and fees. It fits the announced base-price ceiling but falls short of 500 hp. Dodge’s announcement
- 2025 Ford Mustang Dark Horse: Ford lists exactly 500 hp, so it is not over 500 hp. Ford’s official page
- 2026 Dodge Charger Scat Pack: Dodge announced 550 hp and a U.S. starting MSRP of $54,995. It clears the power threshold but exceeds the new-car price cap; a used example would need separate price verification. Dodge’s announcement
A starting MSRP is not the same thing as a used-car asking price or a final out-the-door cost. Keep new-car pricing, used listings and transaction estimates separate when comparing candidates.

Horsepower and the advertised price are only the first filters. Before committing to a high-powered used car, compare the actual listing and likely ownership costs rather than relying on a historical fair-value estimate.

- Molded in white, transparent red, and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires. Paint and glue required(not included).
- Verify the identity and output. Confirm the model year, trim and powertrain on the vehicle’s documentation, then check that exact configuration’s horsepower. Do not rely on a model name shared by lower- or higher-output trims.
- Check local asking prices. Search current listings in your area for the same year and trim. Record asking price, mileage, location and seller type, and note whether taxes, dealer fees or other charges are excluded. An asking price is not a confirmed sale price.
- Assess the individual car. Review maintenance records, accident and ownership history, service needs, tire and brake condition, and inspection findings. A low listing price can be misleading if substantial work is due.
- Budget beyond the purchase price. Get insurance quotes and account for fuel, maintenance, repairs, registration, taxes and fees. No comparative running-cost or insurance figures are established for these five candidates, so obtain estimates for the car and coverage you would actually buy.
- Match the car to its use. Consider body style, transmission, drivetrain, practicality and whether you want a daily driver or a weekend car. The right choice depends on your needs as well as the power figure.
What a $50,000 ceiling should mean
Set the budget before shopping and decide whether $50,000 is the vehicle’s sticker or asking-price limit, or your total amount available after taxes, fees, inspection and immediate maintenance. That distinction is especially important for the Corvette Z06: the 2023 article’s $49,852 estimate leaves little room under the cap even before those additional costs.
To build a reliable 15-car shortlist, each additional entry needs a verified year and trim, a confirmed horsepower figure, and current local listings with mileage and condition context. Until those checks are made, the five dated examples above are leads for further comparison—not a current guarantee of 15 cars under budget.
