Some U.S. communities offer cash or perks to attract new residents, but the five destinations often described as “states that pay you to move” are not five active state relocation programs. West Virginia, Noblesville, Indiana, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, have local programs; Mayfield and Graves County, Kentucky, currently show no offer; and Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend is a benefit for eligible residents, not a moving grant. Availability and eligibility differ, so check the current program listing before making plans.
Which places offer money or benefits for moving?
The headline figures can describe different things: direct cash, estimated noncash perks, or a payment that is not tied to relocating at all. The table separates current status from published package estimates. Remitly’s modeled values are from data collected in August 2025 and combine cash with estimated perks; they are not guaranteed cash payments or necessarily current offers. [Remitly’s comparison]

Travel + Leisure’s March 1, 2026 article reported a Mayfield/Graves package of $8,800 and discussed the destinations in the title. Those figures describe reported package values, not proof of current availability. How do I get paid to move to West Virginia?
Ascend WV currently advertises $12,000 paid over two years and describes its offer as “We will pay you $12,000 to find a home among our hills and help you discover free outdoor recreation adventures.” The program also lists outdoor recreation, free gear rentals, coworking, and social programming. Applications are open in five communities, according to the Ascend WV program website.

The program has age, residence, work, and status conditions. Accepted applicants must relocate within six months. Ascend says a qualifying home purchase may allow the incentive to be paid in a lump sum, and participants are responsible for taxes on the incentive. Review the live eligibility terms before applying; the advertised amount is not a no-strings payment.
Is the Noblesville, Indiana offer accepting applications?
The current MakeMyMove listing is waitlisted, so its advertised package is not presently an open offer for a new applicant. The package is valued at up to $15,000 and includes a $5,000 relocation grant, a $500 health and wellness stipend, coworking membership, and local benefits. The listing’s criteria include a minimum income of $80,000, remote work or eligible self-employment, U.S. citizenship, age 18 or older, current residence outside Indiana, and moving within six months. Remitly’s August 2025 estimate of $15,036 for Noblesville is a modeled package value, not a claim that the city pays that amount in cash. The current listing separately states the package’s “up to” value and cash grant.
Do I qualify for Tulsa Remote?
Tulsa Remote currently advertises a $10,000 grant on its official homepage, which also says it has welcomed over 4,000 remote workers since the program launched in late 2018. That count is the program’s own cumulative figure, not a promise of acceptance or a measure of current openings.

The official eligibility page presents an interactive survey, but its detailed criteria were not available as readable text. Travel + Leisure’s March 2026 article reports that applicants must be at least 18, work full-time remotely for an employer outside Oklahoma, be authorized to work in the United States, have lived outside Oklahoma for a year before applying, and relocate within 12 months of approval. Treat those details as secondary-source reporting and confirm the current requirements directly through Tulsa Remote’s eligibility page before applying.
Can you still get the Mayfield and Graves County, Kentucky package?
Not according to the current MakeMyMove listing, which says there are no offers right now. A March 2026 Travel + Leisure story described an $8,800 package, while Remitly’s August 2025 model valued the package at $5,012. Does Alaska pay people to move there?
No—not through its Permanent Fund Dividend. The PFD is an annual payment to qualifying Alaska residents from investment earnings of mineral royalties. The Alaska Department of Revenue’s Permanent Fund Dividend Division says, “The annual payment allows for Alaskans to share in a portion of the State minerals revenue in the form of a dividend to benefit current and future generations.” It is a resident benefit, not a relocation grant.
For the 2026 dividend, applicants must have been Alaska residents throughout 2025, intend to remain indefinitely, and meet additional conditions involving other residency claims, certain felony or misdemeanor history, absences, and physical presence. The amount is calculated in part using eligible applicant counts and statutory net income averaged over the five most recent fiscal years. The state pages reviewed explain the formula and eligibility but do not establish a verified 2025 or 2026 payment amount; avoid treating an estimated or past payment as a current guarantee. How should you compare an offer before relocating?
- Separate cash from package value. A grant is money; coworking, recreation, stipends, and other benefits have estimated value but may not be cash or useful to every applicant.
- Check live availability. A program may be open, waitlisted, or have no current offer. A past article or modeled package total does not establish that applications are being accepted now.
- Read the eligibility and timing rules. Confirm income, employment, current-residence, age, citizenship or work-authorization requirements, and the deadline to relocate.
- Understand how and when payment arrives. Ascend WV, for example, describes payment over two years, with a qualifying home purchase potentially allowing a lump sum. Know what conditions apply and whether the benefit is taxable.
- Do not budget around an unverified benefit. Alaska’s PFD requires qualifying residency; it is not money available immediately upon moving there.
Because program terms and openings change, use the official program page or live listing linked above to confirm details before accepting a job, signing a lease, or moving.
