These five illustrate different roles: commercial-aircraft production in Washington and South Carolina, satellite and defense work in California, and defense leadership and manufacturing in Missouri. Everett and Renton are separate factories within the broader Puget Sound hub—not two geographically separate Boeing regions.
Where are Boeing’s major U.S. locations?
Boeing’s public locations page describes operations across the country but does not rank sites by headcount, investment, output, or economic impact. The locations below are illustrative, selected for their documented functions. Comparing them by what they do is more meaningful than treating “central” as one universal measure. Boeing’s U.S. locations page and its manufacturing careers page provide the company’s descriptions.
| Location | Documented role | Information date |
|---|---|---|
| Everett, Washington | Widebody production; began 737 MAX production on a new line | July 2026 |
| Renton, Washington | Historic 737 production site | Boeing’s current locations page and July 2026 update |
| North Charleston, South Carolina | 787 Dreamliner final assembly and manufacturing | Boeing’s current locations and manufacturing pages |
| El Segundo, California | Satellite production and space and defense systems | Boeing’s current locations and manufacturing pages |
| St. Louis, Missouri | Boeing Defense, Space & Security headquarters, production, and services | February 2026 announcement |
What does Boeing make in Everett?
Everett is a major commercial-aircraft production site. Boeing identifies the factory with the 747, 767, and 777 programs, and describes the wider Puget Sound region as the heart of its commercial-airplane production. In a July 10, 2026 update, Boeing said the first 737 MAX airplane had begun production on Everett’s new North Line. It was the first 737 production outside Renton in more than five decades. Boeing says the line is intended to add capacity and flexibility, including for airplanes requiring additional work; the update reports the start of production, not a completed airplane rolling off the line. Boeing’s July 10, 2026 account describes the startup.
Boeing quoted liaison engineer JJ Paez Chavez on the effort to launch the line: “It took a momentous effort to get us to the start of the North Line, and I’m proud of everyone who contributed to get to this point.” He added: “However, this is when the work for us really starts, and I can’t wait to see the first 737 roll out of the Everett factory as a culmination of all our work.”

Where are Boeing 737s built?
Renton: the long-established 737 home
Boeing says the 737 program moved to Renton in 1970, after initially being built at Seattle’s Plant 2. Renton remains a major 737 production site. The Everett North Line’s 2026 start adds a second location for 737 MAX production; it does not mean the program has moved out of Renton. Boeing’s July 2026 article describes Renton as stabilizing at “Rate 47” and refers to higher future rates. Those are company statements about the program at that time, not independently confirmed achieved output figures.
Everett: a second production location
The North Line makes Everett the first site beyond Renton to build 737s in more than five decades. Boeing presents it as additional capacity and flexibility for the program. This is a change in the 737’s production footprint within the Puget Sound region, rather than a shift away from Washington.

Where is the Boeing 787 built?
Boeing identifies North Charleston, South Carolina, as the home of the 787 Dreamliner. Its U.S. locations page describes South Carolina as a center for 787 final assembly and manufacturing. The site demonstrates that Boeing’s commercial-aircraft production extends beyond Washington. These descriptions do not establish a local employment total, a production rate, or the full reach of the regional supply chain. Boeing’s U.S. locations page outlines the state’s role.
What happens at Boeing’s El Segundo location?
El Segundo, in Southern California, is associated with satellite production and space and defense systems. Boeing’s manufacturing careers page says teams there design and build these systems. The company’s locations page also describes California as home to its largest satellite plant, along with Multi Program Engineering and 24/7 fleet support for nearly 13,500 airplanes. That airplane figure is an undated figure on Boeing’s current page and applies to California’s support activity; it is not an El Segundo site count. Boeing’s manufacturing careers page and locations page describe these roles.

Where is Boeing Defense headquartered?
St. Louis, Missouri, is again the headquarters of Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS). Boeing announced the return on February 18, 2026, after a period when the headquarters was in Arlington, Virginia. The company says the St. Louis region has more than 18,000 employees across Boeing business units and supports defense aircraft and munitions production and modernization, advanced fabrication, services, and sustainment. The figure is for the region and multiple Boeing business units, not for the city or one facility. Boeing’s February 18, 2026 announcement gives the company’s account.
In that announcement, BDS CEO Steve Parker said: “It’s important for leaders to be side by side with our teammates, listening to their feedback and acting to remove obstacles as we continue to stabilize and strengthen our business.”
How should these Boeing locations be compared?
Each represents a different kind of operational importance: aircraft assembly, a program’s established production base, satellite and defense systems, or organizational leadership and sustainment. Boeing’s public descriptions do not provide a consistent, site-by-site dataset for workforce, investment, or output, so they cannot support a defensible ranking of these five locations by size or economic impact. Boeing’s regional and companywide figures should not be treated as facility-level comparisons.
