The five projects in HackerNoon’s May 17, 2022 roundup—Centrifuge, Bit.Country, Acala, Moonbeam, and Efinity—were a snapshot of different ideas being built around Polkadot, not a ranked list or investment recommendation. Their original use cases remain useful for understanding what the roundup covered, but the available evidence does not support treating all five as active Polkadot projects today. Moonbeam announced a major change in 2026, while current operating details for several of the others remain unverified.
What a Polkadot parachain is—and what this list means
A parachain is a blockchain that uses shared infrastructure and security from a relay chain, according to Polkadot’s current developer documentation. That architecture explains why these projects were discussed together in 2022; it does not mean their products, networks, or status remain unchanged. Current Polkadot documentation distinguishes Polkadot MainNet, its production network, from Paseo, its official testnet.

Bit.Country: user-built virtual worlds
Bit.Country was described as infrastructure for communities to create 3D worlds, games, applications, and NFT galleries, with community governance. The sources available here do not establish whether that platform remains operational or whether its products have changed.
Acala: a Polkadot DeFi hub
The article-era description centered on aUSD, LDOT liquid staking, and EVM functionality. A third-party directory’s record of renewed bulk coretime through November 16, 2026 is evidence about that listed coretime status only; it does not establish the current availability or condition of Acala’s individual products.

Moonbeam: an Ethereum-compatible smart-contract network
In 2022, Moonbeam was presented as an Ethereum-compatible smart-contract platform within Polkadot, with GLMR serving functions including gas, staking, and governance. Its July 3, 2026 announcement described a planned migration of GLMR to Base and a protocol relaunch there, setting July 31, 2026 as the deadline. Because that date has passed but completion is not independently established in the available information, the move should be treated as an announced plan rather than a confirmed completed migration.
Efinity: an NFT-focused network
Efinity was described as an Enjin-created network for NFT minting, transfers, and trading. The 2022 article reported an expected throughput of 700 to 1,000 transactions per second and validation in roughly six seconds. Those were project expectations reported at the time, not independently demonstrated performance figures. Current operational status was not established.

How to read the 2022 claims in context
AMINA Research’s February 3, 2022 report said Moonbeam, Acala, Astar, and Clover Finance had completed token launches. It also reported 118 million DOT locked in parachain auctions, equivalent to 12% of supply at that time. These figures describe the early-2022 period; they are not current auction totals or a measure of present project health.
Likewise, the roundup’s count of five reflects its editorial selection, not a ranking based on adoption, performance, financial return, or risk. The projects addressed distinct intended uses: real-world-asset finance, virtual worlds, DeFi, Ethereum-compatible smart contracts, and NFTs. Those differences make the list a useful record of the ecosystem’s ambitions in 2022, but not a direct basis for comparing their current prospects.
