The available evidence documents forecasts, operational deployments, transactions, and advertising results—not comparable measures of incremental net profit caused by the Games.
Here is what the research shows about each company, and where the evidence does not support a stronger financial claim.
How the five companies were affected
| Company | Olympic impact | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Airbnb | Accommodation supply and host income | Pre-event projections of visitor stays and economic contribution; not audited post-event results. |
| Visa | Payment network and visitor spending | Company-reported transaction, contactless, and travel measures; not isolated Visa profit. |
| Accor | Hotel operations and event accommodation | Large-scale preparation and €29 million in Games-linked service remuneration; no impact on recurring EBITDA. |
| LVMH | Premium sponsorship and brand activation | Visible products and cultural initiatives; no separately reported Olympic sales lift. |
| NBCUniversal | Broadcasting, streaming, and advertising | Company-reported record Olympic advertising revenue; not a disclosed net-profit figure. |
1. Airbnb: accommodation demand and host opportunity
Airbnb was a Worldwide Olympic Partner for Paris 2024. Before the Games, an Airbnb-commissioned Deloitte study projected that more than 500,000 visitors would stay in Airbnb accommodations during the Olympic and Paralympic period. It also projected more than €1 billion in total economic contribution in France, including host income, traveler spending, and indirect effects.
The study estimated about €257 million in aggregate Airbnb host earnings, approximately €2,000 in additional average income per participating Île-de-France host, and support for around 7,300 full-time-equivalent jobs during the Games year. These were pre-event projections, not audited post-event company results. [Source: Airbnb-commissioned Deloitte study]
#1 Best Overall
The opportunity came with local-market friction. Olympic-period rentals raised concerns among some Paris property owners and residents, while property-management companies promoted seasonal rental arrangements. Airbnb is therefore an example of both event-driven accommodation opportunity and neighborhood tension. [Source: research on Olympic-period rentals]
2. Visa: payment activity and visitor spending
Visa was the official payment technology partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The company said it built a custom payment network covering 3,500 points of sale across 32 Olympic venues and 16 Paralympic venues. During the first Olympic weekend, Visa cardholder sales at small businesses in Paris rose 26% year over year. Visa also reported that contactless payments accounted for 78% of international purchases in Paris.
Visa reported increased spending across categories including theatres and museums, food and groceries, restaurants, retail goods, and entertainment. It also reported flight bookings to Paris up 39% in the cited lead-up period, with travelers under 35 up 120% year over year. Spending increases were particularly strong in non-Paris host cities including Saint-Étienne, Lille, and Marseille. These figures describe activity reported by Visa; they do not establish an equivalent increase in Visa revenue or profit. [Source: Visa Olympic spending and travel data]

A separate Visa economic-insights report counted nearly one million Visa transactions associated with Paris 2024 ticket sales through July 7, 2024. France accounted for 59% of ticket transactions and the United States for roughly 11%; U.S. visitors had the highest indexed ticket spending among the compared regions. 3. Accor: hospitality operations at scale
Accor was a premium partner of Paris 2024 and prepared more than 1,700 hotels for the Games. The company said more than 40,000 employees, whom it calls “Heartists,” were mobilized. Its ResaEvents subsidiary created a digital booking platform intended to consolidate available hotel rooms and provide an accommodation solution for major sporting events. This makes the impact an operating and coordination project as well as a hotel-demand story. [Source: Accor Paris 2024 announcement]
Accor reported FY2024 group revenue of €5.606 billion, up 11% from 2023. Its later reporting identified €29 million in service remuneration linked to the Olympic Games and stated that it had no impact on recurring EBITDA. The disclosed item quantifies a Games-linked revenue contribution, but it should not be presented as a comparable increase in recurring profit. 4. LVMH: luxury sponsorship and cultural visibility
LVMH became a premium partner of Paris 2024 in July 2023. Several of its Maisons took part, including Berluti, Chaumet, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Moët Hennessy, and Sephora. The group supported athletes and appeared at Club France and Champions Park, alongside hospitality and cultural initiatives. [Source: LVMH partnership announcement]
The partnership had visible, tangible elements: Chaumet designed the Olympic and Paralympic medals, and Berluti created outfits for the French teams’ opening ceremonies. LVMH also organized cultural programming through several Maisons and the Fondation Louis Vuitton. [Source: LVMH partnership details] [Source: LVMH cultural initiatives]
LVMH described the partnership as a major collective achievement of 2024 and said it showcased French expertise and craftsmanship globally. That is evidence of the company’s stated brand and cultural aims, not an independently verified sales lift. The group’s 2024 results reflected a broader difficult economic environment, so its overall performance should not be attributed directly to the Games. [Source: LVMH 2024 reporting]

5. NBCUniversal: advertising and digital engagement
NBCUniversal’s Paris 2024 coverage generated its highest Olympic and Paralympic advertising revenue to date, according to the company. NBCUniversal said it secured more advertisers than during the Rio and Tokyo Games combined, including more than $500 million from first-time sponsors. Digital advertising revenue more than tripled compared with Tokyo, setting a company record. [Source: NBCUniversal Paris 2024 results]
NBCUniversal also reported that brands advertising around Paris 2024 achieved nearly 50% greater brand recall than competitive television advertising, and that three out of four viewers said they trusted Olympic advertisers more than other advertisers. These are the company’s own advertising and brand-effectiveness claims. Its announcement reports record advertising outcomes, not the Games’ net profit after rights, production, and other costs. These companies illustrate five distinct business mechanisms: Airbnb’s accommodation supply and host income, Visa’s payment infrastructure and visitor transactions, Accor’s hotel operations, LVMH’s sponsorship and cultural activation, and NBCUniversal’s media audience and advertising. The measures are not directly comparable, and a high level of event activity does not by itself establish a lasting earnings benefit.

When assessing Olympic-related company claims, check whether a figure is a forecast or a reported result, whether it comes from the company or an independent source, and whether it measures revenue, transactions, operations, or profit. In this evidence set, Accor disclosed a specific Games-linked remuneration amount and its recurring-EBITDA caveat; the other cases chiefly document projected impact, network activity, brand activation, or advertising results.
