The documented options below are better treated as distinct buying profiles: two named daypacks, an ita-bag category for fandom displays, and two practical approaches for different loads. Before choosing, check the specific event’s current bag rules, then match capacity and organization to what you plan to carry.
What should you carry to a convention?
Start with the day you expect to have, not a bag’s capacity number. A badge, phone, wallet, water, snacks, a device, and purchases all compete for space. Carry only what you need, and leave room for anything you expect to pick up; an overfilled bag can become awkward in crowded aisles. The WIRED convention-bag guide similarly emphasizes a manageable load for a long event day.
- Light essentials: A compact bag may be enough for a badge, phone, wallet, and a few small items.
- Device and daily carry: Check for a sleeve that fits your specific device, plus pockets for items you need quickly.
- Shopping or work gear: Allow space for purchases or materials, while considering whether a backpack or a more accessible carry style suits your day.
- Fandom display: An ita bag may suit you if showing pins or collectibles is part of the point.
Capacity alone does not establish comfort or suitability. The product listings below give specifications and features, not convention-specific comfort, durability, security, or value tests.
Five convention-bag profiles to consider
These are not five tested winners. Available documentation supports two named backpack candidates and an ita-bag category, but not a comparable review of five specific models. The final two entries are decision profiles rather than additional products.

1. Osprey Daylite Plus 20L: for daily essentials and a small device
Osprey’s European listing specifies a 20 L capacity, dimensions of 19 × 11 × 9 inches, and weight of 1.3 lb. Listed features include a padded interior sleeve for a hydration reservoir, tablet, or most laptops up to 14 inches; an organizer pocket; side bottle pockets; a front shove-it pocket; and a luggage pass-through. Those features may suit someone carrying everyday items and a device. Confirm that the sleeve fits your own device, and check the regional listing for the version sold where you are shopping; the cited specifications are from Osprey’s European product page.
2. Fjällräven Kånken 16L: for a compact, light load
Fjällräven’s U.S. product listing gives the Kånken a 16 L capacity, dimensions of 36 × 27.5 × 12 cm, weight of 300 g, three pockets, and a removable seat pad. It describes the bag as convertible between backpack and bag carry, with slender adjustable shoulder straps. The modest pocket count may be a drawback if you want extensive organization, and the product description is not evidence of all-day convention comfort. See Fjällräven’s U.S. Kånken listing for the stated details.

3. Ita backpack: for displaying pins and fandom collectibles
An ita backpack is a specialty category for people who want a display window for pins or other fandom items alongside ordinary carry space. Convention-focused guides discuss display bags and inserts, but they are not independent product tests. Before buying a specific bag, inspect its window, closure, insert fit, capacity, and straps rather than assuming all ita bags protect displays or carry comfortably. See Mint & Lily’s ita-bag guide and Aitaikuji’s ita-bag guide.
4. Simple daypack: for attendees who do not need a device sleeve or display window
If your load is ordinary event essentials, a basic daypack may be all you need. Choose by the features your own packing list calls for—such as bottle pockets or accessible small-item storage—and check the bag’s dimensions against the event policy. The available evidence does not identify a specific fourth model or establish that a generic daypack outperforms the named candidates.

5. More accessible carry: for booth workers and conference staff
If you work at an event and need frequent access to supplies, a messenger bag can be easier to reach without removing a backpack. WIRED’s 2024 guide discusses the Waterfield Designs Executive Messenger as an option for event workers, but does not establish it as the best choice for general attendees. Consider this a different carry style for a distinct use case, not a fifth backpack recommendation.

Check the event’s bag rules before packing
Bag limits vary by event, so do not treat one convention’s policy as an industry standard. D23’s published policy, updated August 13, 2026, says bags may be screened and prohibits bags larger than 24 inches long × 15 inches wide × 18 inches high. It also reserves discretion over other items. The policy states: “All persons, bags, parcels, clothing, and other items may be subject to screening/security checks.” Read the current D23 event policy for its full terms. BlizzCon also directs attendees to review its event restrictions and policies.
