The 75-floor Moscow tower was completed in 2013. Its often-repeated $1 billion price tag is not confirmed by the sources cited here.
1. A reflective bronze-gold glass facade
The tower’s facade gives it its most recognizable feature: reflective glass with a bronze or gold cast. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) says the design originally called for reflective silver glass before changing to bronze-tinted glass. Mercury Tower’s official architecture page describes panoramic energy-saving glazing with gold plating and says it helps maintain comfortable indoor temperatures. That comfort description is the operator’s claim, not an independently reported performance measurement.
The official page also attributes this description to architect Frank Williams: “Mercury is a building that unites fiction and reality, visual appeal and functionality, pragmatics and aesthetics.”
2. Two setbacks give the tower a tapering profile
CTBUH describes two setbacks on the tower’s northwest facade. Slanted roofs at those points emphasize the building’s tapering outline and draw the eye upward. They shape the silhouette; they do not change the tower’s reported height measurement.

3. Its height depends on what is being measured
CTBUH lists Mercury City Tower’s architectural height as 338.8 metres (1,112 feet) and its occupied height as 293 metres (961 feet). Architectural height is the standardized figure used for the tower’s overall height; occupied height records the level reached by usable floors. The local directory CityMoscow.ru rounds the building’s height to 339 metres, rather than giving a contradictory measurement.
| Specification | Reported figure | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Architectural height | 338.8 m (1,112 ft) | CTBUH |
| Occupied height | 293 m (961 ft) | CTBUH |
| Rounded height | 339 m | CityMoscow.ru |
| Floors | 75 | CityMoscow.ru |
CTBUH also reports an energy-cycle system addressing energy usage, ambient temperatures and hot-water distribution. These are reported building-system features; the cited material does not establish independently measured savings or operating performance.

4. Offices, apartments and event spaces share the tower
Mercury City Tower is a mixed-use building rather than a single-purpose office block. The official overview describes offices, apartments, restaurants, cafes, boutiques and event space. Its floor allocation places offices on floors 4–39, an event venue on floor 40, apartments on floors 42–75, a media facade on floors 68–69, and restaurants on basement level -1 and floor 1. Those allocations describe the site’s overview; confirm current occupancy and public access before planning a visit. CTBUH notes that apartments can be combined to create flexible layouts.

Mercury City Tower was completed in 2013, according to its official site and CityMoscow.ru. The local directory reports total floor area of 173,690 square metres, while the official site describes the area as approximately 180,000 square metres; the sources do not identify these as the same measure, so the figures should not be treated as interchangeable.
