Important: This is a historical snapshot of WIRED’s US Fourth of July deals roundup, published July 4, 2024, and updated July 3, 2024. The prices, discounts, inventory, sale windows, and coupon codes below were observed around late June and early July 2024. They should not be treated as live offers in 2026 without checking the retailer.
WIRED’s list was not a roundup of every Independence Day promotion. It focused on products its staff had tested, reviewed, recommended, or included in buying guides. WIRED also disclosed that it could earn a commission from purchases made through links in the article. The page used “30 deals” as a headline, but its featured module, bundles, sale-wide promotions, and detailed entries contain more than 30 recognizable product or promotion slots.

For personal-finance purposes, the key question is not simply how large a discount looked. The better test is whether the 2024 price was unusually low, whether the product matched the buyer’s needs, and whether accessories, shipping, assembly, returns, or required add-ons changed the real cost.

At a glance: the six featured deals
| Product | 2024 featured price | Advertised savings | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| REI Half Dome SL 2+ Tent | About $245 | $104 off | Two-person backpacking |
| Apple Watch Series 9 | About $299 | $100 off | iPhone owners |
| Buffy Breeze Comforter | About $180 | $45 off | Lightweight bedding |
| Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress | About $1,499 | $804 off | Side sleepers |
| Rad Power RadRunner 2 | About $1,200 | $200 off | Utility-focused riding |
| Rumpl Original Puffy Recycled Blanket | About $92 in the featured module | $33 off | Portable outdoor warmth |
WIRED’s detailed entries showed slightly different prices for some items—for example, the REI tent at about $244 and the Rumpl blanket at $66. Those differences likely reflected variants, retailer updates, or page-module timing. They should be preserved rather than silently treated as one definitive price.

Technology deals
Nomad Base One Max 3-in-1 MagSafe Charger, first generation
2024 price: $95, advertised as $55 off. WIRED status: The older model was presented as nearly identical to the newer recommended version.
The important distinction was charging: WIRED noted that the first-generation deal model offered fast Apple Watch charging, while the newer version did not. That makes the older unit potentially attractive to buyers with compatible Apple devices, but shoppers had to verify that they were purchasing first-generation stock and not a later variant.
Best for: Apple users who want one charging station for multiple devices. Watch for: Exact model numbers, MagSafe compatibility, included power accessories, and marketplace seller warranties.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRoborock Q5 Pro+
2024 price: $480, advertised as $220 off. WIRED described this as matching its best tracked price.
The Q5 Pro+ on sale had a detachable mop pad, more suction, longer runtime, and a larger dustbin than the Q5+ variant discussed in parts of the editorial copy. This model distinction matters: the Q5 Pro+ and Q5+ are not interchangeable descriptions. Confirm the exact model, dock, mop configuration, and warranty before buying through a marketplace.
Best for: Buyers seeking a robot vacuum with a self-emptying setup and mopping capability. Watch for: Replacement bags, filters, mop parts, app support, floor compatibility, and return shipping.
Apple Watch Series 9
2024 price: Approximately $300, advertised as $100 off. WIRED status: Rated 7/10 and described at the time as its best smartwatch for iPhone owners.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
WIRED highlighted fitness and sleep tracking, fall detection, Spotify controls, and Siri-powered timers. The deal entry was later struck through on the page, so it should be treated as ended rather than as a current bargain. Older Series 9 inventory may also vary by case size, cellular capability, color, and seller.
Amazon Kindle Scribe Essentials Bundle, 64 GB
2024 price: $324, advertised as $196 off. The bundle included a Premium Pen stylus and leather folio adapter.
WIRED rated the Kindle Scribe 8/10 and positioned it particularly well for note-taking. The original article also warned that Prime Day was only weeks away, a timing consideration for July 2024 shoppers—not a current sale prediction. Compare storage, pen type, cover, ads, and return terms when evaluating any later Scribe offer.
Mattress and bedding deals
Mattress discounts are difficult to compare without a size, firmness, bundle, and delivery context. The large savings figures below may include free accessories, and they were specific to the 2024 promotion.
Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress
2024 price: $1,499, advertised as $804 off with code JULY4TH. The promotion claimed 35 percent off and included pillows, a sheet set, and a mattress protector.
WIRED called the Bear Elite Hybrid its favorite mattress for side sleepers. That is a time-sensitive editorial judgment, not a universal fit guarantee. A buyer should compare firmness, sleep position, body weight, cooling needs, trial terms, pickup or removal costs, and the value of the included accessories. Historical codes such as JULY4TH should be assumed expired unless a current retailer page confirms otherwise.
Helix Midnight Luxe Hybrid
2024 price: $1,662, advertised as $712 off with code JULY30, plus two free pillows.
The article said a 25 percent discount appeared automatically but that the code produced a better offer. WIRED named the Midnight Luxe its favorite mattress at the time. Firmness selection and sleeping position are central to this recommendation; a larger percentage discount does not make the mattress a good purchase if the feel is wrong or the trial and return terms are unfavorable.

2024 price: $1,399, advertised as $300 off. WIRED described it as relatively firm and supportive. The Leesa Sapira Chill was offered as a hotter-sleeper alternative for an additional amount.
Every quoted mattress price should be tied to a size. A queen, king, twin, and split configuration can have substantially different prices, and a “free” bundle may affect the effective value.
Buffy Breeze Sheet Set
2024 price: $140, advertised as $30 off. The set was available through Amazon and Buffy. WIRED positioned the eucalyptus bedding as lightweight, cool-feeling, and breathable.
Buffy Breeze Comforter
2024 price: $180, advertised as $45 off. A WIRED writer said she had used the comforter for years. That is an individual testimonial, not controlled durability testing or a guarantee of performance for every sleeper.

Buffy Wiggle Pillow
2024 price: $87, advertised as $22 off. WIRED said the pillow used material made from 55 plastic bottles and described it as a large body pillow for lounging, curling, and support. The bottle figure should be understood as an attributed product claim, and current materials or labeling may differ.
Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set
2024 price: $277, advertised as $122 off with code WIRED. WIRED included the set in its Best Sheets and Best Cooling Sheets coverage.

“Bamboo” bedding is commonly made from bamboo-derived regenerated cellulose, such as bamboo rayon. Check the manufacturer’s current fiber disclosure rather than assuming that the fabric is made from mechanically processed bamboo.
My Sheets Rock Regulator Cooling Sheets
2024 price: $158, advertised as $41 off with code FIREWORKS24. WIRED listed the set as an honorable mention in its Best Cooling Sheets guide and described the material as bamboo rayon. The code and current product specifications require fresh verification.

REI Half Dome SL 2+ Tent
2024 price: Approximately $244 to $245, advertised as about $104 to $105 off. WIRED called it its top two-person backpacking tent.
The tent had a symmetrical rainfly, interchangeable poles, an included footprint, and a packed weight just under four pounds. Those features favor convenience and livability, but specialized ultralight tents may weigh less or provide a different balance of space and weather protection.
REI Co-op Siesta Hooded 20 Sleeping Bag
2024 price: $97, advertised as $42 off. WIRED recommended it for car camping, highlighting two zippers, a hood, adjustable airflow, and summer-friendly warmth.
A 20-degree rating does not mean every camper will be comfortable at 20 degrees. The recommendation was contextual and better suited to casual camping than to a buyer optimizing for minimum backpacking weight.

Zenbivy Bed 25
2024 price: $232, advertised as $79 off. WIRED rated it 9/10.
The quilt-and-sheet design aims to feel more like a bed than a restrictive mummy sleeping bag. It is a strong fit for campers who prioritize freedom of movement and comfort, but the system may cost more and pack larger than a conventional sleeping bag.
Kelty Bestie Blanket
2024 price: $19, advertised as $6 off. The polyester blanket measured approximately 76 by 42 inches.
Its relatively narrow dimensions make it more appropriate for one person or smaller users than for two adults. This was a budget-friendly accessory, not a full substitute for a large camp quilt.

Detailed-entry price in 2024: $66, advertised as $44 off; the featured module showed about $92 and $33 off. It used recycled 30-denier ripstop polyester and included a stuff sack.
The blanket’s strengths were lightweight construction, packability, and portability. Price varied by color and size, so the discount was not necessarily universal across the line.
Branch Ergonomic Office Chair
2024 price: $296, advertised as $33 off.
WIRED highlighted seat-depth, recline, and armrest-length adjustments and said the chair suited most people and was easy to assemble. Those statements do not replace checking seat height, seat depth, weight limit, desk compatibility, shipping fees, and the return policy. Ergonomic fit is personal.
Osprey Farpoint 40 Travel Pack
2024 price: $139, advertised as $46 off.
Features included stowable backpack straps, padded handles, a compartment for a laptop, tablet, e-reader, or Switch, and ventilated carry. WIRED noted that although the pack was marketed as a men’s model, it worked for a short female writer. That experience should not be treated as universal sizing advice; torso length and fit-system measurements matter more than the marketing label.
Solo Stove Bonfire 2.0
2024 price: $225 for a bundle with a popcorn popper, advertised as $75 off, using code SAVEMORE.
WIRED called it its best-tested fire pit but explicitly noted that deeper discounts had existed. In other words, the offer was reasonable, not necessarily an all-time best. At about 19.5 inches wide and 15 inches tall, it was more manageable than the Yukon, but buyers still needed to check local fire restrictions and safe-use requirements.
Solo Stove Yukon Essential 2.0 Bundle
2024 price: $500, advertised as $200 off with code SAVEMORE. The roughly 27-inch fire pit included a stand and lid.
The Yukon offered more capacity than the Bonfire, but the larger size undermined portability. Include the stand, lid, fuel, storage, and local-use restrictions in the total cost.
BioLite FirePit+
2024 price: $188, advertised as $62 off. WIRED described a 10,400-mAh battery, smokeless-fire-pit and grill functions, a rechargeable air-jet system, phone charging, and Bluetooth control of flame and airflow.
The electronics add convenience but also more potential failure points than a passive fire pit. Battery condition, software compatibility, charging, water exposure, and replacement support matter when evaluating used, old, or marketplace inventory.

Rad Power RadRunner 2
2024 price: Approximately $1,199 to $1,200, advertised as $200 off. WIRED positioned it as an affordable utility ebike, citing a stable frame, chunky tires, step-through design, and accessory ecosystem.

The sale price is only one part of the ownership decision. Local ebike classes and equipment rules vary. Real-world range depends on rider weight, terrain, temperature, assist level, and battery condition. Also account for shipping, assembly, service access, replacement batteries, locks, helmets, and insurance or registration requirements where applicable.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Woom 4 MicroShift children’s bike
2024 price: $549, advertised as $50 off. Woom’s broader promotion offered $25 or $50 off depending on spending.
WIRED cited a starting rider height of around 45 inches and highlighted MicroShift twist-style shifting, a relatively lightweight design, and a sizing tool. Use the manufacturer’s current height and inseam measurements rather than age alone when choosing a children’s bike.
Guardian 20-inch Small
2024 price: $289, advertised as $50 off. WIRED cited a starting height of around 43 inches and described a single handbrake designed to trigger the rear brake first.
That brake-safety description is product-specific and should be checked against current Guardian documentation. Confirm sizing, current availability, assembly requirements, and return terms before purchase.
TomboyX clearance
2024 offer: Prices from $8. The clearance selection included gender-neutral underwear, bras, reversible swimwear, compression tops, and shorts. WIRED said inclusive sizing extended to 6X at the time.
Clearance inventory and size ranges change quickly, so neither the starting price nor the size range should be assumed current.
Halara Easy Peezy Dress
2024 price: $40, advertised as $15 off. WIRED cited built-in shorts, pockets, and a built-in bra, with part of the assessment based on a writer’s personal experience. Treat that as an anecdotal use report rather than controlled apparel testing. Check fabric, fit, care instructions, and return exclusions.
Lifestyle, games, beauty, travel, and coffee
Happy Planner
2024 promotion: Up to 75 percent off. The sale covered paper planners, stickers, washi tape, and accessories. WIRED called Happy Planner its top weekly-planner pick.
“Up to” applied to selected items, not necessarily the entire catalog. Compare the discounted planner format, dated versus undated pages, refill costs, and accessory spending before treating the promotion as a saving.
Steam Summer Games Sale
Historical window: The 2024 sale ended at 10 a.m. Pacific Time on July 11, 2024. WIRED recommended checking wish lists because the event covered too many games to list individually and mentioned Unpacking as an example.
This date is expired and should not be presented as a current Steam promotion. For a present-day purchase, compare the current store price, bundle contents, refund eligibility, and whether a game is already included in a subscription or library.
Beachwaver B1 rotating curling iron
2024 price: $69, advertised as $30 off. WIRED rated it 8/10 and highlighted automatic hair-wrapping, beginner-friendly operation, a lightweight design, and automatic shutoff.

Calpak Mini Diaper Backpack with stroller straps
2024 price: $152, advertised as $14 off.
WIRED highlighted low interior pockets, room for small electronics or other gear, and stroller-hanging straps. The bag was presented as something that could continue functioning as a general-purpose backpack after the diaper stage. Compare capacity, wipe-clean materials, stroller compatibility, and the return policy.
Rancilio Silvia Pro dual-boiler espresso machine
2024 price: $1,049, advertised as $50 off. WIRED rated it 7/10 and highlighted the temperature gauge, shot timer, dual-boiler design, and relatively slim footprint.
WIRED noted that switching between steaming and hot-water dispensing was somewhat slow. The machine’s real cost also includes a grinder, water treatment, maintenance supplies, and possibly a specialty-retailer warranty. Confirm where US warranty service is handled before buying.
How to judge the deal instead of the percentage
- Compare against the normal selling price. A list-price discount can exaggerate savings if the product routinely sells below list.
- Look for a tracked low. WIRED specifically noted that the Solo Stove Bonfire deal was not its deepest discount and that the Beachwaver had fallen lower during Black Friday.
- Read the coupon mechanics. Historical codes included
JULY4TH,JULY30,WIRED,FIREWORKS24, andSAVEMORE. Do not assume they still work, stack with automatic discounts, apply to every size or color, or include sale items. - Calculate the all-in price. Add tax, shipping, assembly, required accessories, mattress removal, replacement parts, and any membership or subscription cost.
- Match the product to the use case. A four-pound tent, 20-degree sleeping bag, large fire pit, firm mattress, or utility ebike can be excellent for one buyer and unsuitable for another.
- Check the exit strategy. For expensive products, review trial periods, return shipping, restocking fees, warranty coverage, service networks, and replacement-battery or consumable availability.
- Verify the exact variant. This is essential for mattresses, bedding, blankets, apparel, children’s bikes, robot vacuums, Apple Watches, and bundled electronics.
What was genuinely notable?
The strongest historical examples were not always those with the largest advertised percentages. The REI Half Dome SL 2+ stood out for a clear best-in-category use case and useful included features. The Zenbivy Bed 25 received WIRED’s high 9/10 rating for campers prioritizing bed-like comfort. The Roborock Q5 Pro+ was notable because WIRED described the price as matching its best tracked price, although the Q5 Pro+/Q5 distinction must be respected.
The mattress promotions looked dramatic, but their value depended heavily on size, firmness, accessories, and trial terms. The Solo Stove Bonfire was a solid offer according to WIRED but explicitly not an all-time low. The Kindle Scribe and Apple Watch were attractive technology deals in the 2024 context, yet both were time-sensitive and later marked as ended on the page.
The safest way to use this roundup today is as a record of what WIRED considered worth watching—not as proof that any listed price, coupon, product generation, or recommendation remains current.
