During the U.S. trading week of Oct. 5–9, 2026, analysts at three firms reportedly upgraded Microsoft, Palantir and Marvell Technology. The available summaries establish the rating changes and some target prices, but they do not provide enough evidence to responsibly say which stock to buy first. An upgrade is a research opinion—not a substitute for comparing each company’s outlook, valuation and risks with your own investing plan.
Which tech stocks did analysts upgrade last week?
A weekly roundup covering Oct. 5–11 reported four rating upgrades overall: NIO, Palantir, Marvell and Microsoft. For a technology-stock comparison, the three relevant calls were Microsoft, Palantir and Marvell. They were separate analyst actions on different days, not a joint recommendation or a shared Wall Street consensus. [c001]

These actions and targets come from secondary summaries rather than the firms’ original research notes. The target figures are analyst estimates, not promised prices or returns. Without consistent information on target horizons, rating definitions and valuation assumptions, they should not be treated as directly comparable. [c001] [c002] [c003] [c004]
What was the reasoning behind each upgrade?
Microsoft: enterprise AI security and Azure capacity
The roundup says Melius Research sees potential benefit for Microsoft from demand for enterprise AI security and growth in Azure capacity. TipRanks’ summary also attributes this statement to Melius Research’s note: “Microsoft and cyber companies ‘are even more needed’ as AI leaders speak of the risks to humanity.” The available accounts summarize the firm’s view; they do not provide the full note or identify a named speaker for that sentence. #1 Best Overall
Palantir: sovereign AI and tailored applications
TipRanks summarizes Goldman Sachs’ themes as sovereign AI, bespoke applications and verticalization. That is a short account of the upgrade’s themes, not the full Goldman Sachs report or a complete explanation of its assumptions. [c003]
Marvell: target raised, thesis not established
The roundup reports TD Cowen’s upgrade to Buy and its target increase from $245 to $350, described as a 43% rise. The reviewed passage does not give the analyst’s underlying rationale, so the target change alone cannot establish why the firm became more positive. [c004]

Which one would I buy first?
The available information does not support a defensible first choice. It does not establish a complete comparative case for any of the three: the summaries omit the full valuation models, forecast periods and risk assessments, and Marvell’s summary does not even provide an investment thesis. Naming one as the stock to buy first would turn limited reports of analyst actions into a personalized recommendation they cannot support.

- Business outlook: Check what company results and guidance say about demand, growth and execution; do not treat a brief analyst summary as proof that an opportunity will materialize.
- Growth and margins: Examine the assumptions behind expected revenue growth and profitability, and how sensitive the case is if either falls short.
- Valuation: Ask what expectations are already reflected in the share price and whether the analyst’s valuation assumptions are credible.
- Downside risks: Identify what could weaken the business case and how much loss you could tolerate.
- Time horizon and target period: Match any forecast to the period you intend to hold the investment. The reported summaries do not establish comparable target horizons.
These are diligence questions, not findings about which company currently offers the best value. The underlying Melius Research, Goldman Sachs and TD Cowen reports were not available in the cited summaries, so their detailed models and risk assessments cannot be verified here.

A rating change reflects one research firm’s opinion under its own assumptions. It is not a guarantee that a stock will reach its target, and three upgrades from different firms do not add up to a single consensus call. 24/7 Wall St. cautions: “No single analyst report should ever be the sole basis for buying or selling a stock.” [c005]

Market performance is not evidence that these particular upgrades will succeed. For context, the Nasdaq Composite closed at 27,366 on Oct. 9, 2026, up 0.6% that day. That index move describes the broader market on one session; it does not measure the value or future performance of the three analyst calls. [c007]
