Successful influencer campaigns start with a defined business goal, a creator who fits the audience and the idea, and a plan to measure the result that matters. Three case studies—from Brita, MATCHES, and Virgin Voyages—show different ways to put that into practice. Their reported outcomes use different measures and come from the companies or platforms publishing the cases, so they illustrate planning choices rather than prove that one tactic will work for every brand.

At a glance: three campaigns, three different goals

Campaign Primary goal Creator and creative approach Reported outcome and source
Brita with Stephen Curry and King Bach Awareness and favorability for Brita Stream among urban millennials A humorous YouTube roommate story shaped by creator King Bach, with Stephen Curry as Brita ambassador More than 2 million YouTube views, a 2,000% mobile search lift, and a 36% lift in brand favorability, reported by Think with Google
MATCHES with LTK creators Sales growth, awareness, and expansion in the United States 12 US-based brand ambassadors selected for luxury style and audience fit, supported by shopping and sales tracking LTK reports 1.3 million unique social engagements, 50% year-over-year sales growth, and 4x return on ad spend, among other measures, in its MATCHES case study
Virgin Voyages’ TikTok Creator Voyage Travel discovery and TikTok-referred website traffic in the US A creator trip involving more than 1,000 creators, TikTok-native posts, and paid amplification of selected content TikTok for Business reports 22.7 million video views and a 696% increase in TikTok-referred website traffic in its Virgin Voyages case study

These numbers are not directly comparable: views, favorability, sales, return on ad spend, and referred traffic describe different outcomes. Treat each as a result reported by its publisher, not as an independent forecast for another campaign.

Brita: turn a real audience frustration into a creator-led story

Objective and audience insight

In an interview-based case study published in August 2017, Think with Google described a Clorox campaign intended to raise awareness of Brita Stream among urban millennials. Clorox marketing communications director David Kargas said the team heard a familiar complaint: a roommate would finish the filtered water and leave the pitcher empty. The campaign used that small, recognizable annoyance as the premise for a comedic YouTube “roommate” story.

Creator fit and creative control

Clorox and its studio partner Portal A considered roughly 40 creators, narrowing the list based on popularity with the intended audience and chemistry with Curry. King Bach led creative development, while the team kept the objective and boundaries clear. Kargas described the balance this way: “Everyone involved should know two things: your objective and your boundaries. Everything else is creative space.” Portal A creative director Kai Hasson likewise argued for loosening a typical process and trusting the team to create entertainment that could cut through online noise.

What the case reported—and what to take from it

Think with Google reports more than 2 million YouTube views, a 2,000% mobile search lift, and a 36% lift in brand favorability. These are campaign figures from the interview-based case study, not a controlled estimate of what another advertiser should expect.

The transferable planning point is to begin with a specific audience observation, then match the creator to both the audience and the concept. Set the non-negotiable goal and boundaries, but leave room for the creator’s own voice. This case supports that approach as a documented choice; it does not establish that less control always produces better results.

MATCHES: align creator selection and measurement with market expansion

Objective and creator selection

LTK’s case study describes MATCHES seeking sales growth, brand awareness, and expansion into the United States. The retailer activated 12 US-based brand ambassadors whose style aligned with its luxury positioning and whose audiences suited its intended demographic: affluent women aged 25–34. LTK says the campaign used its performance insights and shopping and sales-tracking technology.

Reported results

LTK reports 1.3 million unique social engagements against an initial target of 1 million; 50% year-over-year sales growth; 4x return on ad spend; 40% market-share growth; and sales 32% higher within the first two weeks of launch. The case also says the creators contributed 40% of the brand’s total LTK platform sales.

These figures come from LTK’s own case study. The page does not provide enough detail to independently assess attribution or the comparison period for every metric, so they should be read as vendor-reported results rather than independently audited findings.

What marketers can borrow

Define the market and target audience before recruiting creators, then choose measures tied to the business goal. If the objective is sales growth, track sales-related outcomes alongside engagement rather than treating engagement as a substitute. Regular performance reviews and creator feedback can help a team adjust its campaigns and products; MATCHES’ Global Affiliate Marketing Manager, Tom Pawley, described those reviews as part of a process of exploring findings and improving campaign choices.

Virgin Voyages: plan for participation, content rights, and amplification

Campaign design

TikTok for Business published its Virgin Voyages case study on May 29, 2026. The US travel campaign was designed to turn a creator trip into a broader discovery moment. TikTok describes a program involving more than 1,000 creators across audience sizes, TikTok-native storytelling, a partner-built creator onboarding package, and paid amplification of selected content. Creators received 180 days of authorized use through Branded Buzz, and the program tracked videos using campaign hashtags.

Reported results and limits

TikTok for Business reports 22.7 million views of videos tagged #sailingwithvirgin, a 696% increase in TikTok-referred website traffic, 1,103 participating creators, and more than 3,200 posts across the campaign conversation. The platform says the case is informational and that brand claims are not independently verified or endorsed by TikTok. Virgin Voyages’ VP of Marketing and Digital Innovation, Billy Bohan Chinique, said a creator-led strategy let the company reach different audiences through a high volume of creative “at a fraction of the cost.” That is the executive’s description of the program, not an independently established cost comparison.

What marketers can borrow

Plan the full content lifecycle before the trip or activation begins: creator participation, permissions for reuse, a way to identify strong posts, and a distribution plan for amplification. Keep views and referred traffic separate in reporting. Neither measure, on its own, establishes sales.

A useful extra example: Liverpool’s Bolo Fest

TikTok’s case study of Liverpool’s 2023 Bolo Fest campaign in Mexico describes a simple participation mechanic: an original jingle and choreography, creator participation, a Branded Mission, and an incentive for five creative, trend-aligned videos. TikTok reports 20% ad recall, a 9.1% engagement rate for the Branded Mission, reach of 50 million views, nearly 1,000 platform videos, and nearly half a million parade attendees. The case attributes results to client internal data, TikTok Ads Manager, and a November 2023 TikTok Brand Lift Study. See TikTok’s Bolo Fest case study.

The practical lesson is to make participation easy to repeat and connect it to a real-world event when that fits the objective. Keep platform reach distinct from attendance: they describe different kinds of audience activity.

Quick Recap

How to apply the cases to a campaign plan

  1. Write the objective in business terms. Decide whether the campaign is meant to improve awareness or favorability, generate sales, reach a new market, or send qualified visitors to a website.
  2. Describe the audience and the reason to care. Use a real audience tension or need when possible, as Brita did with the empty pitcher. Specify who the campaign must reach and why the product or message could matter to them.
  3. Match creators to both audience and idea. Consider the creator’s audience, brand fit, and ability to deliver the intended format—not just follower count. A luxury retailer, a comedy-led product story, and a travel discovery campaign call for different kinds of fit.
  4. Set the guardrails and the creative space. Make the goal, required claims, and boundaries clear. Decide where creator judgment can shape the story instead of prescribing every detail.
  5. Plan distribution and usage rights up front. Specify whether creators will publish to their own channels, whether the brand can reuse or amplify content, which posts may be selected for paid distribution, and how long permissions last.
  6. Choose metrics that match the objective. Awareness may call for favorability or ad recall; sales goals need sales-linked measures; discovery may use views or referred traffic. Label the source and method for each reported metric.
  7. Review and adjust. Set a review cadence for performance and creator feedback so the team can refine creative or product choices while the campaign is active.

How to read influencer case-study results

  • Separate the metric from its interpretation. A view is exposure, an engagement is an interaction, a search lift is a change in search activity, and a sales figure is a business outcome. They do not mean the same thing.
  • Name who reports the result. The Brita figures are presented by Think with Google based on interviews; MATCHES figures are published by LTK, the campaign vendor; Virgin Voyages figures are published by TikTok, which says brand claims are not independently verified; and Bolo Fest figures are attributed by TikTok to client data, Ads Manager, and a Brand Lift Study.
  • Check the comparison and attribution details. A percentage lift depends on its baseline and time window. If those details are not stated, do not infer them or assume the outcome was caused by one campaign tactic alone.
  • Do not rank unlike campaigns on a single scale. The cases pursued different goals and report different measures. Use them to compare planning decisions, not to declare a universal winner.
